Here’s what nobody tells you about “pull your core in.”

A lot of women are holding their belly in most of the day and do not even realize it. It can start as posture, a fitness cue, or just wanting to feel more supported, but when that gripping becomes constant, it can affect a lot more than your abs.

I see this pattern all the time with pelvic tension.

When your abdomen stays braced, your rib cage often stops moving well, your breathing gets more shallow, and your pelvic floor can stay in a guarded, overworking pattern too. That can show up as bladder urgency, constipation, bloating, heaviness, discomfort with intimacy, or a general feeling that you can never fully relax your body.

The goal is not to stop using your core. The goal is to stop gripping all day when your body does not need it.

One simple thing to notice today: can you let your belly soften when you inhale, or does it stay pulled in no matter what?

A lot of constipation advice starts and ends with food, water, and supplements.

Sometimes that helps. Sometimes it does not.

Because bowel movements are not just about stool consistency. Your pelvic floor has to be able to lengthen and let go at the right time too. If that outlet stays tight or the coordination is off, you can eat well and still feel like things are not moving the way they should.

That is one reason some women deal with ongoing constipation, straining, or that annoying “I still don’t feel done” feeling even when they are doing everything right.

If this is your pattern, pay attention to how often you strain, whether you ever feel fully empty, and whether you feel pressure or tightness right at the end of the bowel movement. Those details matter.

If you’re in Encinitas or San Diego and want help figuring out whether your constipation is more of a pelvic floor issue than a food issue, send me a message.

A lot of women can tell you how many fingers fit in the gap, but that still does not explain why their core feels weak, bulgy, or unstable.

That is because the gap is not the whole story.

What matters more is how your system works under pressure. I want to know what your abdomen does when you get out of bed, lift your baby, exercise, cough, or even just exhale. I also look at whether the tissue can create tension, not just whether there is separation.

That is why two women can have a similar gap and feel completely different.

If your core still feels off, do not get stuck only measuring. Pay attention to what your body is doing during movement. That is usually where the answers are.

If you’re in Encinitas or San Diego and want help figuring out what your postpartum core is actually doing, send me a message.

Pelvic tilt gets talked about like it is the diagnosis, but it is usually a pattern.

If your pelvis is sitting in more anterior tilt, many people feel more tension through the front of the hips and more effort in the low back. Postpartum, it often shows up alongside bracing patterns and pressure management changes, which is why some women feel like their core is not “turning on” the way it used to.

What matters is not the label. What matters is what your body is doing to create stability. Are you gripping your hip flexors and low back? Are you bracing your belly? Are your ribs and pelvis not stacking well during movement? Those answers guide the plan.

If you are in Encinitas or San Diego and you want help figuring out your specific pattern, send me a message and tell me what you notice most: low back tightness, front hip tightness, pressure, or a belly that feels like it pushes out when you move.

S*x is meant to be comfortable, connected, and enjoyable. If it has been painful or consistently uncomfortable, you deserve answers that go beyond “just relax” or “it’s normal.”

One topic that is often skipped is cl*toral hood mobility and how that tissue moves and feels over time. If the area is irritated, restricted, or sensitive, it can contribute to discomfort with intimacy, touch, or even certain clothing.

This is not a self-diagnosis post. It is simply awareness that pelvic health is nuanced and there are real, treatable reasons why intimacy may feel different than you want it to.

If you’re in Encinitas or San Diego and you want a respectful, straightforward conversation about what you’re experiencing, send me a message.

Leaking during a run is one of the most common “I thought I was past this” patterns I hear, especially postpartum and in active women.

What matters most is when it happens, because that often tells me what the cause is:
If it happens at the start, the system may be bracing or not coordinating yet.
If it happens on hills or speed work, it often points to pressure strategy under higher load or muscle imbalance.
If it happens at the end, fatigue is usually changing mechanics and timing.

You do not have to stop running to figure this out. You just need a plan that matches your pattern.

If you’re in Encinitas or San Diego and you want help sorting out your “when,” send me a message and tell me when it shows up: the start, hills, speed work, or the last mile.

Let’s keep this simple and useful.

A rectocele is a type of prolapse that involves the back vaginal wall. Most people do not figure that out from a label. They figure it out from a pattern.

Here are the kinds of questions that often lead someone to look into it:

Do you feel pressure or heaviness that builds during the day?
Do bowel movements feel harder than they used to, even when diet is not the issue?
Do you feel incomplete emptying, like something is stuck there?
Do symptoms feel worse with lifting, carrying, workouts, or standing for long stretches?
Have you ever felt a bulge sensation that comes and goes?

This is not a self-diagnosis post. This is awareness. If any of this fits, a pelvic health provider can assess what is going on and help you understand your options.

If you are in Encinitas or San Diego and you want a calm, straightforward conversation about your symptoms and what support could look like, send me a message.

Your adductors do not get nearly enough credit.

These are your inner thigh muscles, and I think of them as one of the most overlooked players in pelvic stability. They work closely with the pelvic floor, hips, and deep core. So when they’re always tight, overworking, or getting sore fast, I do not just assume they need more stretching.

A lot of the time, they’re trying to help stabilize a system that does not feel well organized.

That can show up in pregnancy, postpartum, pelvic pain, or even with exercise. You feel pulling through the inner thighs, discomfort with certain movements, or like those muscles are constantly “on.”

What to do? Usually not endless stretching. I’m more interested in how you’re breathing, how you’re managing pressure, and whether your hips, pelvis, and core are actually sharing the work well.

If you’ve ever thought, “Why are my inner thighs always doing the most?” this is exactly the kind of pattern I look at.

If you’re in Encinitas or San Diego and this sounds familiar, send me a message and tell me what movements bring it on.
