Diapers vs. No Diapers for Rabbits (My Experience & Thoughts)

I’ve seen a lot of strong opinions about rabbits wearing diapers, so I wanted to share my personal experience and how I approach it.

In general, rabbits do best without diapers. Their skin is sensitive, they need to groom naturally, and long-term use can create issues if moisture is left sitting against their fur.

That said, I think there are some limited, short-term situations where cloth diapers can be used responsibly, depending on the rabbit and the situation.

For example, I only use a cloth diaper:

* for short periods (1–2 hours max)
* when my rabbit is supervised
* and I remove it immediately if it becomes soiled

My goal is never to leave it on after any waste, since keeping moisture against their skin is what causes problems.

For me, it has also been helpful as a temporary training tool. I’ve noticed that when my bunny wears one briefly in situations where she normally pees on soft surfaces (like a bed), she often stops repeating that behavior afterward. So in my experience, it can sometimes help with correction when used carefully and not as a permanent solution.
