So grateful for the opportunity to host this Camels and Chai painting class with the wonderful Muslim Family Center in Columbia, MD.
Watching everyone bring their own arabesque patterns to life was an absolute joy. It was such a lovely, enthusiastic group of participants! ✨
For those who don’t know, arabesque is one of the three classic Islamic art forms (alongside calligraphy and geometric patterns), and it was so fun putting this piece together step by step.
Thank you all for your energy, creativity, and beautiful company. Can’t wait to do this again insha’Allah 💚🕌

Come with me as I start drawing “My Overgrown Patio Garden.” On Day 1 I focused on drawing everything in my sketchbook then I started the coloring process starting with the patio deck.

It was such a great time attending with my family this year! There were many fun things to check out, including shopping, food, islamic talks, and fireside chats.

We take our awards VERY seriously at Camels and Chai 🏆
Our “Best Team Name” winners at Pakistani Trivia Night walked away with this certified certificate of certification 😆 saying “Naam toh rakhna koi hum se seekhe” “نام تو رکھنا کوئی ہم سے سیکھے 💅” = rough translation: “people should ask us how to name things”
This certificate features some of Pakistan’s most iconic landmarks and monuments. The question is… can you name all of them? 👀

It was so much fun to paint this design in our Islamic Geometric Patterns Workshop today! Our hard work led to such a fun and colorful design. The yellows really made this piece pop!! 🍭
We will back at Oca Mocha again on June 13 for our event: “Brushstrokes for Palestine” where we will paint a fun variation of the Palestinian flag and donate 50% of the proceeds to World Central Kitchen that have provided millions of meals to Palestinians in Gaza.
