Tow truck company pushes for better understanding of Slow Down/Move Over law in Indiana Every year, people are killed while responding to help others during emergencies and some workers feel people aren't following the laws.

Tired while you’re driving? Take a break!

Find a rest area, Safety and Weight Enforcement Facility, or exit to stretch your legs – do not stop on the interstate or alongside the roadway unless it is an emergency.

Wisconsin has 28 rest areas located on the Interstate system and other major four-lane highways that are open year- round.

You call us tow truck drivers. You call us in your time of need. You call us because you have nowhere else to turn. Weather you car won’t start or you locked your keys inside or you break down you call us in a panic. At that moment we are your concern, the only person you want to be there for you. We come fix you up and then just that quick we are but a distant memory. Let me take a minute of your time to tell you what we are.

We are not tow truck drivers, we are towing operators. We go through extensive training for the services that we perform. You think that our day consists of going from car to car to truck towing breakdowns, jumping batteries, and unlocking doors. Yes that is PART of it, but there is much more than that.
Being a towing operator is a lifestyle, not a job. That means there is no 9-5, no making plans for a dinner date or a last minute movie. We come to work and we go home at the end of our shift SOMETIMES. Other times we stay for double or triple shifts. We get called in all hours of the night weather just getting home from a shift or at 1am for accidents or massive recovery operations that take 10-15 hours or more to complete at times. We see things that most people would never ever want to see. We go through emotional and stressful situations constantly. We don’t get 3 meals a day. Sometimes we are lucky if we eat once a day. We work in the harshest of conditions from sweltering heat to bitter cold, In the sun, mud, slush, snow and pouring rain. We risk our lives on the sides of highways with traffic blowing by us at 60-80 miles per hour everyday. And we know that each time we step out of our truck it’s a gamble. One towing operator is killed every 6 days in this profession. That’s an average of one operator per week! If you see flashing lights on the side of the road slow down, move over if you can and give us room. Did you know there is a monument is Tennessee called the wall of the fallen strictly dedicated to towing operators? Yes you may see different company names on the sides of trucks but we are a brotherhood, a family. We help each other. When we see another operator on the side of the road we pull over behind them to offer protection for them to give them a better chance of going home to their loved ones that day. Weather we personally know them or not we do it.
So the next time you call for a tow truck or a service truck remember these things. Say thank you, be polite and know that we WILL get you taken care of and back home to your loved ones.
We do this because we have a passion to help people. We are towing operators.

Be safe out there.

Every time that tone goes off, a paramedic, firefighter, EMT, police officer, tow truck operator, or other rescue personnel is startled awake, jumps out of bed, gets dressed and is en-route. They put their loved ones aside and focus on those in need, despite the dangers that await them. Regardless of the hour, the weather conditions, the holiday or event - when needed, they promptly respond.

Copy & paste this as your status if you are an emergency responder, know one, or love one.

Thank you to my family and friends ❤️🚒🚑🚓

Let's all remember the ones that gave their lives for us

04/26/2020

This is not my post but a definite READ PLEASE READ AND SHARE ! If you even care about your Tow Operators! I see a lot of posts about thanking doctors and nurses, convenience store , grocery store workers police and fire dept and emts...

But what about us? What about the ones always forgotten , we are like the cousins no one talks about till s**t gets real... That's right us guys that really walk the thin yellow line.. dispatchers answer the calls that drive us to the customers that are broken down ...that's right the guys you all so easily forget... Thank The Tow Truck drivers... and the dispatchers...

The ones that are still picking folks up when the break down. The ones that are there when you need a jump start or lock your keys in the car. The ones that are there for you if you have a crash. The ones your gonna deal with the most if you do have a crash...

Yeah dont forget us and the fact we lose a driver daily to a work related death because people run us over on the side of the road...

Our job has a higher death rate then being a police officer, but no one even thinks of us... We are the forgotten few.. just remember we all have families. Kids , wifes all of us are sons of daughters, and our families worry for us daily. We know are job isn't for everyone, we know our job is a lifestyle, you either love it or hate it... But one thing is for certin.... Our public needs us. So please the next time you see a wrecker operators, a flatbed operator or a heavy duty operator stop and say Hi. Maybe a thank you could go along with that... I know some of us look scary or dirty.. but that's because we are out here serving you in all types of weather and situations...

Please Thank A Tow Operator

Move Over Shuffle

Cute and friendly reminder so slow down move over!

02/17/2020

This video speaks for its self. Anytime a tow operator is out on a call they have the risk of this happening. You may have seen even law enforcement being struck while on the freeway. People are unaware that there is a law that is in place to prevent this from happening. It’s called Slow Down Move Over. You are to move into the other lane or if you can not move over you are to slow down while passing law enforcement, emergency responders, and tow operators. This includes police officers, ambulances, fire department, and tow operators. Many times our drivers have near misses. We at Knight towing strongly support this law and we encourage you to do the same. Please make the effort to Slow Down Move Over. It could safe someone’s life!

01/24/2020

Yesterday, the Assembly Committee on Public Safety held a public hearing on Assembly Bill 746, which if enacted would create "emergency response areas" in Wisconsin to protect emergency responders, including tow truck operators.

Similar to current law construction zones, fines and penalties would be increased for inattentive driving in such areas and penalties for bodily injury to a responder by an inattentive driver would be increased.

Fire, EMS and law enforcement testified in strong support of the bill, as did the Wisconsin Towing Association. Attached is the WTA testimony on the bill.
