Katie Jendro is a partner at her law firm Hess Jendro and been with the firm for over 10 years. She loves working with clients to solve their legal problems.
When asked about serving on the board of directors, she gave it thoughtful consideration before saying yes. “It’s an opportunity to give back to my community and expand my network of friends and colleagues.” Katie also currently serves on the Membership Committee.
Katie has many fond memories from her Leadership Elk River experience and especially remembers having to come straight from court and catching up with her group at the Oliver Kelly Farm. While she didn’t remember to bring a change of clothes, she did bring her good humor with her, since she ended up plowing a field in red high heels.
In her spare time she can be found enjoying her favorite snack of chips and salsa or training with her husband and daughter for their annual triathlon in her home town of Nevis, MN.
The end of an unhealthy marriage can be the beginning of a bright new future.

RE: COVID-19 UPDATE
Dear Valued Client,
Governor Walz issued a “Stay-At-Home” order on March 25, 2020. The application of the terms of the Order commence at midnight on Friday, March 27, 2020. In summary, it requires people to stay home except for “essential activities.”
While the definition of “essential activities” is evolving, it does appear that legal services constitute an essential service. Not all of our activities, however, fall within that definition. Moreover, whenever possible, the safety of our clients and staff will be paramount regardless of the Governor’s Order.
Our plan is to primarily work remotely, with one person in the office to facilitate the work of the others. The identity of the person working in the office will change on a daily basis. The door will remain locked and there is now a lock box affixed to the exterior of our building for documents. It will be checked regularly, but only during business hours.
As for payments, we hope to have a card payment plan option available soon on our website hesslawoffice.net. You may also continue to mail checks.
Whenever possible, communication with attorneys should be done primarily via e-mail. Please communicate via e-mail. Our e-mail addresses are as follows:

The attorney may return your communication via telephone, e-mail, or possibly a Zoom.com conference. If you do not have Zoom.com on your computer or mobile device, we encourage you to download Zoom.com – it is free, easy to use, and quite effective.
The Court system is delaying most actions other than those it deems to be “emergency” matters. The majority of our work does not fall within the definition of “emergency.”
There is work we can complete. We hope to keep all matters on track. We will have time for communications with clients or potential clients.
The most important thing is that we all stay safe and healthy. We can get through this situation if we work together, cooperate, and have a little understanding of the difficulties that we all will face during this time.
Sincerely,
HESS & JENDRO LAW OFFICE, P.A.

In case you were wondering, we remain open today and are taking phone appointments.
As of today, March 23, 2020, we are still open. Our procedures are not changed – we are available by phone and email but are not accepting in person appointments. In the event that you need to pay for services, we ask that you call with a card number.
One issue that we are working to figure out is the execution of ESTATE PLANNING documents. There might typically include trusts, wills, powers of attorney and digital powers of attorney, heath care directives, deeds and certificates of trust. Some of these documents require notaries and some require witnesses. We have monitored and participated on Bar Association online discussions of how to best manage these requirements in the context of required social distancing.
Our plan at this time is to provide documents to clients in advance, go through the documents in telephone calls or video conferences using free and simple software, then have a meeting to execute documents while remaining in your car, have the documents witnessed and notarized, process the documents while you wait in your car, then return the documents to your car. Obviously this process will require payment in advance. This procedure is not perfect, and won’t allow us to have the level of customer service on which we pride ourselves, but it will allow us to complete the work that clients are urgently requesting.
To all, please stay safe and healthy.
We remain open and are taking telephone appointments.
We are open today and are able to assist with your legal matter. Just a reminder, for now all appointments will be phone appointments.

RE: COVID-19
Dear Valued Client,
We write to you to inform you of our office’s procedures during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak.
We continue to remain open during normal business hours. However, in an effort to minimize community spread, we have decided to eliminate in-person meetings. We will still be available for telephone appointments, and strongly believe that this will be an acceptable substitute in most instances. We are also working on installing a drop-box outside of our office to allow clients to drop off important documents and will notify you once that is installed. Until then, most documents can be scan/emailed or faxed to our office.
We are also working on a robust remote working strategy for as many of our staff as possible in order to support social distancing.
Chief Justice Lorie S. Gildea issued a statewide order, effective March 16, 2020, for all Minnesota Courts. The Order establishes temporary procedures for district court case proceedings. Those procedures have divided cases by order of priority. Cases that are scheduled for a court hearing and are considered “High” or “Super High” priority all court proceedings should continue as normal. Scheduled cases designated as “Medium” and “Low” priority are suspended for 14 days.
We are attaching a copy of the case priority list for your review. Cases involving emergency custody, family court temporary custody/parenting time hearings, trials when custody and parenting time are at issue, or domestic assault are considered “High” and “Super High” priority. The vast majority of the cases we handle at our office will be considered “Medium” or “Low” priority.
For those cases which are considered “Medium” and “Low” priority, we will notify you of the classification of your case type and we will be contacting the court to request a new date for your matter.
If your case is considered a “High” or “Super High” priority case, we will contact you to let you know how to proceed accordingly.
If you should be required to sign a document, we now have technology available that will allow for electronic signatures. We will provide instructions for those types of signatures as needed.
With regard to estate planning, we will generally be delaying cases absent emergency circumstances. When a client has a need for immediate action, and requests it in advance, we
can complete drive-up signings. This means that our clients will drive up to the office, and we will come outside to your car and you will sign while remaining in your vehicle. Our witnesses will observe you from approximately 6 to 10 feet away, and we will deliver copies of the documents to your car after they have been signed.
With regard to bankruptcy cases we are awaiting an announcement from the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Minnesota, and we will advise as necessary.
We are committed to assisting you in your legal matter and thank you in advance for your patience as we navigate the challenges of COVID-19 to best serve our clients.
To the extent that things change in our availability or offerings of service, we will update you via email or letter, and please like us on our page where we will be providing more real-time updates.
Thank you for privilege of serving you with your legal matter.
Sincerely,
HESS & JENDRO LAW OFFICE, P.A.
