Volunteer Spotlight

You could say that Mary Ann Penatzer created the Clothing Barn, and you would be correct. Mary Ann and friends, Brenda Lanni and Marilyn Kroezen, worked with the Lights of Hope Thrift Store that was run by Jewel David Ministries in the the old Roth Furniture building on Market Street. When that closed, they moved all of the clothing and linens to a large garage that was managed by Doug Lamb. That garage became the UCEA Clothing Bank.

In 2019, UCEA tore down the old garage on the Community Place on Washington property and constructed the 2-story Clothing Barn in it's place. The 3 friends moved everything once again and Mary Ann and Brenda became co-coordinators of the new facility. In 2021, Mary Ann and Brenda turned the coordinator position over to Judy Mervine, but Mary Ann still volunteers nearly every week.

Mary Ann attends St. Peter's Catholic Church. She says "When we can help an individual or a family with children, meet their clothing needs in these trying times, it makes the volunteer hours seem so worth the time that we have given to provide such a wonderful resource. The generosity of the Elizabethtown area has been absolutely amazing, for which we are so thankful."

Thank YOU, Mary Ann!

Help is here at three different locations in Elizabethtown.

From January 5 to January 31, any E-town/Rheems/Bainbridge resident now has an opportunity to complete the no cost confidential assessment at one of the following three locations, by appointment only:

Cornerstone Community Ministries (717) 367-0000

Please remember to make an appointment!

10 Minutes! That is all the time it takes to complete the assessment using a private touchscreen tablet at the location.

Once the assessment is complete, a counselor will contact you to offer a copy of the report from your assessment, a list of resources and answer any questions. There is no obligation. Consider taking this next step to help strengthen you!

🗒️ Over the past 5 years, ECHOS has been graced with roughly 15 interns who have dedicated hours of their education and time toward empowering stability among our community!

🤝 The relationship between ECHOS and our interns is reciprocal – we learn as much from them as they have learned from us! It’s a time of learning and growing…of sharing our experience as they work towards their educational goals.

👩‍🎓 Typically, ECHOS accepts bachelor and master level interns from local colleges in fields related to our work (e.g., social work, sociology, family studies).

On behalf of ECHOS, thank you to ALL of our interns who have made ECHOS who we are today!
