Yesterday, PMOK Consulting attended the Business Network for Offshore Wind's Air Defense & Offshore Wind (OSW) webinar, where leaders from the British Royal Air Force outlined their efforts to collaborate with their counterparts in OSW.

Interestingly, they made use of value engineering by brainstorming on function. It is important for the military to be able to detect aircraft, which has traditionally been done by radar. During this joint exercise, however, they expanded the function to "Detect Objects", freeing them from boxing themselves in to just using radar to detect vessels and aircraft.

The US military ostensibly has the same concerns around OSW farms and their ability to detect aircraft and vessels. PMOK Consulting can facilitate a similar working group for collaboration between military and OSW developers. For more info, e-mail [email protected].

Facilitation -
• Value Improvement Workshops: Used on Oil & Gas projects, Value Improving Practices, or VIPs, are out-of-the-ordinary practices used during Front-End Loading (FEL) to improve capital project performance. This collaborative workshop with the Developer and Consultant helps the Project Development Team (PDT) visualize the path forward. Project processes are broken down into nodes, ideas that may generate value are brainstormed and ranked, and a list of recommendations are created for the project team to follow up on. Facilitator is a Certified Value Specialist (CVS) through SAVE International.
• Risk Workshops: The PDT, EPC contractor, and outside SMEs are led through a workshop by a facilitator where risks are identified by category (ex. policy/political/regulatory, financing/cost, vessel availability, T&D, contracting, weather, environmental, technical) and qualified and/or quantified. Their potential effect on the cost and schedule can also be qualified or calculated.
• Charrette: A charrette is a type of participatory planning process that assembles an interdisciplinary team to create a design and implementation plan or Master Plan. Great for Stakeholder Management. Facilitator is National Charrette Institute Charrette System™ Certified (CS)
• Training & Development: Using the ADDIE instructional design model, we can design and facilitate training for staff on the project.
