If you take Exit 158 off I-44 and venture into downtown Wellston OK you will find Cecil's gas station.

To my knowledge this is the newest landmark on the old Route 66. This is the first sculpture in the city of Edmond park to be called the Uncommon Ground Sculpture Park. The work is called Valley of the Horse by Artist Paul Moore. It is located at Coltrane and 2nd St. in Edmond OK

Just North of Catoosa, on the west side of old Route 66, is the legendary Blue Whale. This is a great picnic stop for those with kids. If you are on westbound I-44 from Missouri take Exit 248 in Verdigris and take a left. If you are coming from Tulsa on I-44 stay in the left lane to get on old Route 66 just past the Hard Rock in Catoosa.

Is it just me, or is your Facebook feed completely overloaded with fake images generated by artificial intelligence lately?

I'm not sure how, but Facebook has somehow determined that I'm really into unrealistic images of log cabin mansions. (I wish I was kidding.)

On the bright side, nobody in the AI crowd seems to be generating images of abandoned gas stations, so I'm at least somewhat safe from the AI takeover, but a lot of my full-time photographer and artist friends are having a tough go of it right now.

Less than 50 miles from the New Mexico border at Exit 311, in Arizona , is the Petrified Forest National Park.

One of the last exits off the New Route 66 Eastbound, before you get on the Turner Turnpike to Tulsa, is Exit 137 NE 122nd St. There is an Oklahoma Welcome Center on the West side of I-35 across the street from a Love's Travel Center. If you want a free cup of coffee and a map this is a good stopping place as there is not much directly accessible off of the turnpike and you will have to pay to exit and re-enter. The welcome center has the free coffee just to clarify 😁
