Last week I was bummed because I was sick and doing a workout would have been a HUGE mistake. Good news is I feel loads better and survived last night's workout!! Yay!
If you are looking for a gym that is supportive and always makes working out fun then this is the gym for you! I love everyone at the gym and how we all cheer each other on. Best coaches and makes working out so much more enjoyable!!

The History of Murph

How Murph Became the Most Legendary Fitness Challenge Ever

MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND, 2007. Joshua Appel, M.D., now chief of emergency medicine for the Southern Arizona Veterans Administration Health Care System, was a medical resident in Albany, New York, when he had an idea. The holiday had become a thing of beers and barbecues and bargains on mattresses and refrigerators. All of which are great, no doubt. But Dr. Appel wanted to do something to remind himself and a few willing others of the day’s purpose. A way to contemplate with mind and body those who’d laid down their lives for us.

Dr. Appel had recently begun training at CrossFit Albany. “And I heard about this hero workout of the day called Murph,” he says. Hero WODs are dedicated to the memory of a military member or first responder killed in the line of duty. “And I was like, ‘I wonder if that’s the same Murph.’ ”

It was one of CrossFit’s hardest workouts, a prolonged thresher that blended endurance and calisthenics with a whole lot of time in your head, beating back millions of years of human wiring telling you to slow down or tap out. Went like this: You’d run one mile; do 100 pullups, 200 pushups, and 300 squats; then run one more mile. All as fast as possible while wearing a weight vest or body armor.

📄 It was a close battle until the very end, with teams earning points for completing the Open workouts, dressing up for the weekly theme, putting their scores in our system, and other various weekly “special tasks”.

❓ Do you look at CrossFit and think “I could never do that!” or “I need to get in shape before I join!”

❌ WRONG! CrossFit is for anyone and we have athletes of ALL LEVELS here.

👏🏼 This strong woman right here gets another shout out for quietly accomplishing something she hasn’t done before - jumping up and grabbing onto a pull-up bar!

Marie gets 1% better every time she steps through the door 🚪 to the facility and those small changes add up to big wins.

Check out the other photos of Marie Darza during the four weeks of our intramural CrossFit Open, always smiling, and always willing to try something new (like jumping pull-ups or a heavier dumbbell).

Small steps, big rewards towards hanging knee raises, knees to elbows, toes to bar:
1️⃣ Be able to hold onto bar with feet on the ground and lift legs off the ground. ✅
2️⃣ Complete step 1 and then lift knees up towards chest. ✅
3️⃣ Jump and grab onto bar to hold bodyweight! ✅
4️⃣ Jump and grab onto bar and lift knees up towards chest! ✅
5️⃣ Lift knees higher to elbows or even toes to the bar!

There’s many other things we can work on once we can jump up and hang from the bar, and this is just the beginning for this amazing woman.

🗣 Shout out to these folks for tackling the inaugural Marine Corps Marathon Quantico Crucible 5K this past weekend. The in-person event was incredibly well-run (no surprise there) and socially distanced (starting in waves of less than 10 at a time).

⛰ Following a very HILLY trail run (which none of them were expecting), they ended on the field of Butler Stadium performing PT events (burpees, bear crawls, crunches, sandbag swings, tosses, carries, and more) before crossing the finish line.

🤩 We had a little Drink O2 challenge after the noon class on Monday: 2 minutes to drink an entire can of O2 (non-carbonated, caffeinated or caffeine-free flavors) and do as many air squats as possible.

📄 Rules: You could drink the O2 before your started, while squatting, or at the very end.

🤯 Even though Kyle didn’t count his squats, he probably had the best can crush when he was finished (check out the forehead can crush).

🏆 Kayla and Ange split the case of blackberry currant caffeine-free O2 after they tied for the most squats.

🙌🏼 Thanks to O2 Sports Recovery for supplying the cans to use for the challenge!

❓ Try this challenge at home with any non-carbonated beverage (like WATER) and let us know how many squats you can get done (bonus for having O2 at home)! Do you think you can beat Kayla and Ange?
