September 24–27 marks First Responder Su***de Awareness Days, recognizing firefighters, EMS professionals, law enforcement officers, and 911 telecommunicators. ❤️🩹
These days are an opportunity to remember the first responders we’ve lost to su***de, continue breaking the stigma around seeking help, and remind those who serve that they are not alone.
The weight of this work can be heavy. Reaching out is not weakness. Checking in matters. Starting the conversation matters.
One moment does not define a life. Help is available.
This week, and every week, we remember those we’ve lost and stand beside those who continue to serve. 💙

September is Su***de Prevention Month. For first responders, conversations about mental health and su***de prevention are especially important.
A CDC/NIOSH article, Su***des Among First Responders: A Call to Action, looks at some of the unique factors that can affect first responders: from repeated exposure to occupational stress to stigma and the challenges of finding mental health support that truly understands responder culture.
It also highlights something we believe strongly in at 1st Watch Wellness: connection matters. Peer support, culturally competent care, and making conversations about mental health part of the everyday culture can all play an important role.

If you or someone you know needs immediate support, call or text 988 to reach the Su***de & Crisis Lifeline.

The people who seem the strongest may still be carrying more than we realize.
This Su***de Prevention Month, check on the person who always shows up. The one who takes care of everyone else. The one who says, “I’m good.”
You don’t have to have the perfect words or know how to fix what someone is going through. Sometimes, simply asking “How are you, really?” and being willing to listen can open the door.
Check in. Stay connected. Keep the conversation going.
If you or someone you know is struggling, call or text 988 to connect with the Su***de & Crisis Lifeline. In an immediate life-threatening emergency, contact local emergency services.

Today, we honor the women who paved the way and the women who continue to carry that legacy forward. 💙
From the trailblazers who challenged barriers and opened doors for generations to come, to the women serving our communities today, women have played an important role in shaping law enforcement throughout history.
On National Police Woman Day, we celebrate their courage, leadership, resilience, and dedication while recognizing the countless women who continue to make an impact every day.
To the women who serve: We see you. We appreciate you. We’re grateful for you.
Happy National Police Woman Day! 🚔💙

Today, we remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001, and honor the first responders who ran toward danger when others were running away.
We remember their courage. We remember their sacrifice. And we recognize the lasting impact carried by survivors, first responders, families, and communities in the years that followed.
May we never forget those we lost, those who served, and those who continue to carry the weight of that day.
Never Forget. 9.11.01.

What makes Peer Support effective?

Su***de prevention doesn’t start with having all the right answers. It starts with knowing what to look for and being willing to act.
Recognize the warning signs.
Respond by checking in, listening, and asking directly when you’re concerned.
Refer them to the appropriate support and resources.
For first responders, looking out for one another is already part of the job. The 3 R’s provide a simple framework for carrying that same awareness into conversations about mental health.
