Pitching an invention without a plan is an expensive way to test your luck.
Before the meeting:
- Decide what stays confidential
- Use NDAs where they fit
- File a patent application first, especially if public disclosure is close
- Keep records of what you shared and with whom
Preserve options while you look for capital, partners, or smart distribution.

Here’s an expensive brand lesson: The cost of a name conflict isn’t the legal fee or filing fee. It’s new packaging, revised sales sheets, updated marketplace copy, fresh signage, lost sales, and a sales team forced to explain the switch. Clearance work belongs near the front of the launch plan. We share practical IP insights like this for leaders building durable brands in our free monthly newsletter

If your product wins on looks, don't leave the look exposed.
- Utility patents protect how something works
- Design patents protect how it looks
- Trademarks can reinforce brand cues around them
Layered protection can help preserve pricing power, online listings, and customer trust when copycats show up with a cheaper dupe.

Patent budgets deserve the same discipline as any other capital decision.
Ask what the invention blocks, what it could license, and whether the filing supports the company's next stage. A patent is not a trophy; it's an option set. POWER YOUR IDEAS® with filings that fit the business plan. Let's schedule a time to discuss the tradeoffs.

On Memorial Day, we remember the people who gave their lives in service and the families who carry that absence every day after. Freedom is often spoken of in broad terms; today is for the people behind it. Wishing you a meaningful Memorial Day.

One fresh copyright ruling can settle a dispute and still leave everyone with new questions. The Supreme Court's Cox decision wiped out the verdict against the internet provider, yet commentary around the case points to unresolved issues for lower courts, service businesses, and copyright owners.

Before your next product launch, ask three questions:
Did we clear the name beyond a quick search?
Are we filing for the word mark, logo, or both?
Who will watch for copycats after launch?
A trademark plan built early can cut expensive resets later. If a second set of eyes would help, this is a good time for a brief review.
