Have you driven around Gwinnett lately and noticed that giant buttons are popping up all over town? No, there is no mysterious giant looming above that has misplaced their sewing kit. These buttons are the work of Button Art, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.
The team works to engage artists of all ages, cultures and mediums and has a vision to create a platform for artists to promote and showcase their art to the public. Although the call for artists ended in 2020, the team is still looking for individuals or businesses that wish to sponsor button sculptures. As a sponsor, you have the choice to supply your own art or partner with a current Button Art artist. Not sure if you have the right location? All that’s required is a level surface that is accessible or viewable by the general public. Easy peasy!
Not only will having a giant button sculpture at your business bring increased traffic, interaction and social media promotion, it will also make you look like a super sophisticated art connoisseur. So that’s just a win-win no matter how you look at it.

In the outskirts of Leiden in the Netherlands, there rests a giant, 115-foot-tall man colored orange. Sitting on a two-story platform beside an eleven story glass building, this towering orange man welcomes you to the Corpus Museum, the world’s first museum to take visitors through the entire anatomy of the human body.
The giant orange body at the Corpus Museum is cut in its center by the glass walls of the building, making it appear to be a silhouette. In reality, the orange man is a full body resting half inside and half outside of the museum.
The Corpus Museum’s hour-long tour begins with an escalator ride up the leg to the knee, where visitors will step inside an open wound. Next comes the ge***al area, where visitors will put on 3D glasses to witness a s***m cell fertilizing an egg. Farther up the giant body come the intestines, where you can witness the digestion of a cheese sandwich before your eyes. After passing through the ventricles of the human heart, visitors reach the head. Here, adults can observe pulsing neurons in the brain, while children can jump atop a giant tongue as a burping sound erupts from a speaker system.

These delightful figures, which artist Aman Khanna calls Claymen, portray a spectrum of expressions inspired by the intricacies of the human condition. Some sport legs and arms or participate in activities like scuba diving and relaxing with friends, while others’ simplified, disc-like faces depict a range of feelings.

Ghost sculptures in the castle of Vezio, Italy.
Intriguing are the quirky plaster ‘ghosts’ in the castle grounds. Made from white chalk they are re-made each summer by tourists who agree to be put in a particular position. They are then covered with gauze and white chalk staying like that for 20 mins until the chalk is dry. The sculptures remain until destroyed by snow.

When entering the Leiden University Medical Center, one may not expect to come across a sculpture of a strange creature.
“Homunculus Loxodontus” was the name given to a humanoid, elephant seal sculpture crafted by Margriet van Breevoort in 2016. It was designed for a yearly statue exhibition in the city. The sculpture was voted most popular by the people and was purchased by the hospital shortly after. It was the second sculpture Van Breevoort created and her most popular work to date.
