This is a long-overdue thank you post to the good folks at Pond View Sports: owner Don and his two sons, Rusty and Dan.

The upshot of my review is, there is no other gun shop in the state of Maine for me. There is actually one closer to me -- within walking distance, and it's a nice store (nothing against them) -- but I have consistently chosen to return to Pond View and will continue to as long as I live in the area. (Not sure how long that will be.)

I first found them in 2015 when I was living in Dexter. I was immediately struck by several things. First and foremost, their friendly, on the table, no BS attitude. If they know the answer to a question, they'll tell you. If they don't know, they'll tell you but then find out quickly. If they don't have what you want, they can (almost certainly) get it.

Second, their prices. Simply put, they cannot be underpriced. Period. And they will tell you so. If you find a better price elsewhere -- which is difficult to begin with -- they'll best it.

Third, going in the store is a pleasurable trip back into history. Unlike most other gun shops I've visited in the last couple of decades, Pond View feels like you're going back in time (except for the AR's on display along side the Mare's Legs). And if they're not too busy, they -- especially Don -- will take the time to chat. Even on occasion by phone I've had some really interesting and informative conversations with him about everything from handguns to local and regional history. (I'm from "away" so learning more history here is fun.).

My most recent purchase was a R***r 10/22, my first ever. (I've owned a bunch of .22 LR, but I saved the best for now.) Great price -- they were even willing to go lower, but I wouldn't do it; I want to support their store -- fast delivery. (From a distributor.)

I had sold all my guns in recent years because I had plans to move to a country (professional reasons) where I couldn't own one. Those plans have changed, and I'm not longer going there. Now, I'm rebuilding my kit. I haven't reached the end of my list yet. When I'm ready for the next one, I'll get it from Pond View.

In my view, there's no reason to go anywhere else but Pond View.
