Puppy, Adult, or Senior? Which One is Right for You?
One of the biggest questions future adopters ask is:
"Should I get a puppy?"
The truth is... the best dog isn't determined by age—it's determined by your lifestyle!
🐶 PUPPIES
Perfect for families who have the time, patience, and energy for:
✔️ Potty training
✔️ Chewing (yes... everything! 😅) Sometimes you!
✔️ Basic obedience training
✔️ Socialization
✔️ Lots of exercise and supervision
Puppies are adorable, but they're also a lot of work! A LOT. Way more than a guy like me will ever be. hehe
🐕 ADULT DOGS
Adult dogs are often the hidden gems of rescue.
Many are already:
✔️ House trained
✔️ Past the chewing stage
✔️ Settling into their personalities
✔️ Ready to become your best friend
With an adult dog, what you see is often what you get, making it easier to find the perfect match.
🐾 SENIOR DOGS
And then there are my friends who have a few more years behind them.
The seniors. ❤️
I know what some of you are thinking...
"I don't want to adopt a senior because I might not have them for very long."
Or maybe it's:
"I've already lost a dog I loved. I don't think I could go through that again so soon."
I understand. Really, I do.
But here's something I want you to remember:
Old doesn't mean sickly.
Being a senior doesn't automatically mean a dog is unhealthy, fragile, or nearing the end of their life. Many senior dogs are happy, healthy, playful, and ready to enjoy whatever adventures their next chapter brings.
And yes... someday we will have to say goodbye to every dog we love.
But we don't know when that day will come.
What we do know is that a senior dog is waiting right now for someone to give them a chance.
They may not need marathon walks or hours of puppy training.
They may simply want a soft bed, a warm home, someone to sit beside, and a person to love.
And imagine what it means to a dog who has spent years of their life without a forever family to finally hear:
"You're home. You're staying with me." ❤️
Sometimes we worry so much about how much time we'll have...
that we forget how much love can fit into that time.
And that, Moose thinks, is something pretty special.

A senior may not be the right match for every family—and that's okay.
But don't let their age alone make the decision for you.
Get to know the dog.
Learn their personality.
Look at their health and needs.
Then decide if they're the right match for your family.
Because sometimes the dog you think you can't bear to lose...
is the dog who teaches you just how much love a heart can hold. ❤️

There's something incredibly special about giving a senior dog the loving retirement they deserve.
You can quote me, Moose “Don’t Count the years, Make the years count.”
Don't choose the youngest dog...
Choose the dog whose personality, energy level, and needs fit your family.
That's how forever homes are made.
