They wined and dined on influencers' dime, but almost all of the 25 Michigan lawmakers who took the most freebies from lobbyists don't want to answer questions about what they took and why.
How do I know?
Because the kids in my independent student investigative reporting program gave them lots of opportunities to explain themselves -- and they (to put it as nicely as I can) declined.

Last year I launched Eye On Michigan, an independent student investigative reporting project. I've been raising money and hiring students and leading the team as we work to bring more accountability to government.
Today, our partners at the Detroit Free Press published our first stories. There will be more on Tuesday and Wednesday.
If you look at the list of stories included in this link, you'll also find out how to watch the students track down lawmakers who FOR MONTHS ignored their requests for comment because they apparently think they don't have to answer to the public.
