John Schu is at Massachusettes Reading Association!

He gave away about 50 books during his keynote by random! Some were his and some by other great book creators. He gave me Else B in the Sea. What a perfect pairing with The Big Aquarium Adventure!

He told stories-- some connected deep down and others were delightful and full of !

Thank you, John!

At , we celebrated 50 years of IDEA, the law that provided access for everyone to a free and fair education, with a dance party and dueling pianos.

Overnight, it transformed into the space where my copresenter and I spoke about supporting emotional regulation and executive functions.

Then I joined four others in a data blitz about inclusion and accommodations.

Next, I am going to the CEC Special Education Legislative Summit in July to advocate for a fully funded IDEA law. It has never been fully funded. Just think what our students could achieve with the support the law provides.

At DTW to fly to in Utah! Every trip starts with some shopping! I picked up a few items at Hip and Bumble, then found this eye candy of a store! Mirror tile and oranginess pulled me in!

Tonight The Michigan Reading Association Conference ( ) commenced with a few Science of Reading tidbits and a Kahoot. Our team won third place in one of the rounds!

A rep spoke from Amplify, and it brought back fond memories of my research during my senior thesis. I cited several journal articles by Louisa Moats and Hugh Catts, who happen to be featured on their podcast.

Fun fact: I started listening to the Science of Reading podcast in 2020. At first, I could not figure out why they needed a podcast for this, because I thought all reading instruction was based on research, right?

Wrong! For those who don't know, many years publishers and colleges moved away from phonics- based instruction to ways that were not evidence-based.

Many kids learn to read with any instruction, but some kids MUST have explicit and systematic instruction.

I an honored to present, Special Education Students Access Reading with Self-regulation Tools, Modifications, and Reading Journal at 2:45 on March 7, 2026.

I will be giving away a few copies of The Big Aquarium Adventure!

Or come see me in the Author's Garden at 5:30!
