IRS issues standard mileage rates for 2023; business use increases 3 cents per mile
WASHINGTON — The Internal Revenue Service today issued the 2023 optional standard mileage rates used to calculate the deductible costs of operating an automobile for business, charitable, medical or moving purposes.
Beginning on Jan. 1, 2023, the standard mileage rates for the use of a car (also vans, pickups or panel trucks) will be:
• 65.5 cents per mile driven for business use, up 3 cents from the midyear increase setting the rate for the second half of 2022.
• 22 cents per mile driven for medical or moving purposes for qualified active-duty members of the Armed Forces, consistent with the increased midyear rate set for the second half of 2022.
• 14 cents per mile driven in service of charitable organizations; the rate is set by statute and remains unchanged from 2022.
Remember you can only deduct these miles if you have a complete mileage log for the entire year. I suggest MileIQ. Call me for a 20% discount code.

The IRS has made it easier as ever to protect your tax returns. You can now request a PIN number that you will use to file your taxes. Without this number, no one that has stolen your identity without you knowing can file a tax return under your name and social security number. I have signed up for mine. If someone has filed when you go to file, you will not be able to, therefore NO REFUND! At least until the IRS has time to process your “paper return” and sort out the problem. I will tell you now, it will take at least a year to get your money. Go to www.irs.gov/ippin this will take you to set up your pin no. PLEASE, PLEASE do this. You will be sent a letter from the IRS annually in December, do that you can file your returns.

This was the first stimulus check sent in 2020. I’m sure that the 2nd will be similarly overpaid. Chances are the IRS will not try to get this back from taxpayers. But ultimately it does add to our deficit.
IRS sent over $800M in potentially improper recovery rebate payments The service also failed to issue $80 million in payments to eligible individuals, according to a new report from TIGTA.

Very important information for children under 17 to avoid delays on you 2021 returns. Please review before filing your returns this year. This goes especially for all of you DIY tax filers.
IRS expects to begin sending form 6419 out on January 21, 2022. This is a letter that verifies what advanced child credits you received in 2021. Understand that before you file 2021 returns you want to be sure you know what you have already received. You may “think” you already know, but if the number is wrong it will significantly delay processing of you return which will entitle you to at least the first six months of credits that must be claimed on your return. In 2019 millions of returns were significantly delayed because amounts claimed for Earned Impact Payments could not be reconciled by the IRS.
For 2021 any child you claim as a dependent would receive as follows:
- for children under 6 you are entitled to $300/month. Most likely you received these monthly payments each of last six months. Meaning, you MUST claim the other 6 months on your 2022 return.
- for children over 6 AND 17 and under the monthly amount would be $250.
NOTE: if you child changed age is the middle of the year and it changed credit amounts, your credits will change. I suggest all taxpayers with dependents that qualify, WAIT for letter 6419 to avoid delays in processing your returns before filing 2021 returns.
Sorry for bad info from earlier, but I can’t fix stupid

I usually don’t do commentary on politics, but I always comment on my taxpayers interests. is a commentary on what he has not done. Can’t get his party together (all 3 chambers in his corner). Spending yourkids, grandkids future. And when he loses the senate in November, he is TOAST. If he can’t get he first part done, then look at what you are going to pay, gas taxes, produce (not getting delivered), +100 cargo containers sitting out of ports (one of which wrecked an oil pipe line) (why because they have no labor). And he keeps promoting I’m gonna create jobs. Can’t do that if you just keep printing money. Spending money. And selling America your BS plan. Even your own “people” are not not buying into this. In a few years, you won’t be here, but what your trying to do, will impact everyone 3 generations out. And now you come to my state to spew your rhetoric.

https://www.wcpo.com/money/consumer/dont-waste-your-money/why-millions-of-tax-refunds-are-still-delayed
I still have clients that still have not received their refunds to the total of over $150,000 dollars. And when I call at 7am (when they open) I cannot get thru. In order to help, I now have an eastern coast phone number that get me through an hour earlier. However, I get the same response, “it’s in process.” Be aware that when the IRS ultimately gets you refund, interest for late “payment” will be added to your refund. Keep checking at IRS where’s my refund. I want to apologize but I can’t fix this.
Why millions of tax refunds are still delayed Summer is almost over, but millions of taxpayers are still waiting for their refunds. The IRS explains the reasons for the delays.

With all the delays with taxes, along with difficulty getting ahold of the IRS, this is a wonderful tool for all taxpayers. You can avoid fees I charge to call the IRS on your behalf (as I can actually get thru). However, I will warn you… ONCE YOU SET UP YOUR ACCOUNT, WRITE DOWN USER ID AND PASSWORD. Because if you lose it, it will take you weeks to get access again.
