Our Co-Founder and Executive Producer Scott Silberstein's latest blog begins:
"There's a saying we have posted on our kitchen fridge that says, 'You need not attend every argument to which you are invited.' I thought about that when a colleague of mine – someone I’ve known for years, someone with a history of supporting the arts and advocating for artists – invited me into the 'are the arts really essential' argument.
I declined."
Click through to see what he did instead, and how the extraordinary Renee Fleming, Harry J. Lennix and Lindsay Jones figured in.
No argument: the arts are essential, and that’s that. — HMS Media Renée Fleming, Harry Lennix and Lindsay Jones walk the walk.

As we bid farewell to HARMONY on Broadway today, HMS extends congrats and sends its gratitude to everyone on stage and behind the scenes. HARMONY is a beautiful story filled with important ideas, arriving at a moment where the world could use more like it. Thank you Barry Manilow, Bruce Sussman, Warren Carlyle, Ken Davenport, Sandi Moran, Garry Kief, the cast, the creatives and everyone involved in this gorgeous piece of storytelling, and please enjoy watching the HMS press montage.
We could try to tell you how much Chita Rivera meant to us. We’d rather show you. Here’s a gorgeous performance of “Winter/Love & Love Alone” from Kander & Ebb’s THE VISIT from the short-lived Stage Network series STUDIO SESSIONS, which HMS produced with Chita’s great friend and collaborator Michael Croiter. Most of you have never seen this before, and we think it’s a perfect way to say goodbye to this extraordinary artist and human.
Much love to all who are missing and mourning Ms. Rivera, and deep gratitude to her for all she brought to our lives.

What a joy to see this video posted by Chicago Dance History Project. Featuring an interview with Frank Chaves, former Artistic Director of our beloved River North Chicago Dance Company, this clip takes us back to our early days and our very first arts broadcast special, REALITY OF A DREAMER, a portrait of a scrappy young dance company that reminded us very much of ourselves (if we could dance).
This was a watershed moment in HMS' history, and we deeply appreciate the recognition, the appreciation and the trip down memory lane.

You don't want to miss HMS' critically acclaimed broadcast presentation of Tony Award-winning Lookingglass Theatre Company's LOOKINGGLASS ALICE, streaming for free for one more week on the PBS app and at PBS.org!
And when we say critically acclaimed, we mean it. Check out these reviews of our capture of Lookingglass' spectacular spin on the stories:
The Wall Street Journal: “Could become a seasonal perennial and family tradition.. acrobatic, slapstick, quietly dramatic and magical… the benefits of the television coverage include an intimacy with the performers that a live audience doesn’t get, and makes viewers wish they had been there… savor the charms of this Alice.”
Associated Press: “Innovative and thrilling… the circus tricks energize and echo the whimsical script… it’s a lovely metaphor for life.”
Playbill: ”A family friendly romp!”
IMDb: “Visually stunning... magic… extraordinary… a treat for the senses.”
Filmed Live Musicals: “Absolutely STUNNING!”
BroadwayWorld: "Theater companies are no longer able to do as much school outreach as they used to; video is a different, potentially more feasible way to get the arts to students. 'Lookingglass Alice' could do that."
RealGood: “Mesmerizing… a visual feast."
