Today was the second workshop working with Mentors in Violence Prevention. This time we were in Cedar Falls. These high school students rocked it in a quick workshop learning ways they can be leaders who BUILD comfort zones and positive peer relationships.

Thank you to the University of Northern Iowa's Center for Violence Prevention for inviting the Stowe Heights Director to facilitate this workshop.

Over the weekend Stowe Heights had the opportunity to work with Special Olympics at their Unified Sports Inclusive Youth Leadership Summit. It was a pleasure to be invited and always inspiring to work with groups that positively look for how "we can" together and honoring a Challenge By Choice form of participation and leadership.

Stowe Heights is a CHALLENGE Course that provides a space for young people to build comfort amidst struggle. We also know we can do hard things when we support each other which leads to this year's Giving Tuesday ask.

We are continuing to build capacities and accessibility to organizations and groups serving Iowa youth. This past summer it cost Community Youth Concepts $850/day to open the course to groups.

This year your Giving Tuesday donation will help Community Youth Concepts work with other organization's budgets in accessing this amazing local resource and helping to build our community together.

Thank you for considering Community Youth Concepts and Stowe Heights this Giving Tuesday, November 29th.

More information will be released Tuesday, November 22.

Thank you to our supporters, Stowe Heights served 912 youth during the outdoor season at the course. We are working hard to bring more programming to more youth in 2023.

COMING SOON: Stowe Heights MERCH STORE!!

This year for our campaign we are focusing on our scholarship program for our Stowe Heights Course. For a limited time only, you will be able to purchase some Stowe Heights swag. Stay tuned for more sneak peaks of what will be available in our Merch Store.

Although Giving Tuesday is November 29th we want to give you plenty of time to purchase some Stowe Heights Gear. The store will be open from November 22 until December 2. All proceeds from your purchase will go to support the Stowe Heights Scholarship Fund.

The Scholarship Fund helps create wider access for youth to experience the benefits of the Challenge Course. High and low-challenge courses are known to increase participants’ self-efficacy or belief in their ability to accomplish new tasks. People with higher self-efficacy are more apt to be successful when taking on new situations, such as transitioning from educational institutions or jobs.

Stowe Heights is a program managed and staffed by C*C. For more information about the course or to donate directly to the fund visit the Stowe Heights Website: https://www.stoweheights.org/

Stowe Heights is available now for your group to do our portable programming.

Portable programming is designed to bring the team-building benefits of the traditional low-challenge course program to you at your facility or an off-site location. The program can be used as a stand-alone event, or as part of a larger team development initiative. For more information visit https://www.stoweheights.org/portables

What better way to end the outdoor season than with beautiful sentiment from a student's reflection on the course.

Thank you to all the people - the hearts, the hands, the voices and more that bring this course to life. Everyone is an important part of the whole.

Stowe Heights will be moving into it's indoor season with portable programming (link below). For more information, contact [email protected]

"They say that if a butterfly flaps its wings in the Amazonian rain forest, it can change the weather half a world away."
- one variation of the butterfly quote relating to chaos theory.

Chaos is a “science of surprises”. The Chaos Theory is a relatively new branch of mathematics that deals with surprises, the unpredictability of events and the nonlinearity of life. Knowing what it is can actually teach us how to expect and deal with the unexpected and how to cope with uncertainties and changes.

This is one of many subjects touched on by this incredible group as they reflected on their experience. Other subjects involved perspectives, realities, working with discomfort, vulnerabilities, feeling, being important puzzle pieces of the whole picture and finding balance.

What a pleasure to watch this group experience their abilities.

These leaders from the Des Moines North Girls Soccer Team were racing the sunset yesterday while they dug deep developing their leadership skills. It is always fun working with a sports team (any team) that brings a lot of skills they don't know they have. Identifying and naming those skills and how they are actualized is a helpful tool to applying them with more intention for even better results. This team did just that and saw their evolution as a team, how they lock it in and talked about tools to bring 110% within a span of 1.5 hours on the course.

It was a privilege!

Shout out to the WEB leaders from . What an amazing group of 6th and 8th graders building their connection and skills. This was a motivated group who engaged and displayed both courage and support as each member chose their level of challenge with great communication around their needs. We hope what they experienced on the course caries over to their efforts in building their school community "Where Everyone Belongs".

Of course we couldn't resist throwing in some Halloween Vibes with this cool WEB acronym. Happy Halloween!
