Sadly, not doing much in the shop these days, but I did find some time to make this cute little activity table and chairs for my nephew!
Fun fact: melamine also works as a dry erase board!

Part 6 (and last part) of “What’s Jon Been up to?”
This magnetic knife block was very fun to make! Was supposed to be a wedding gift for my good friend (and groomswoman) , but it ended up being a nice 1st anniversary gift instead!

Part 5 of “What’s Jon been up to?”
Another set of floating shelves and a whole bunch of plant lights!

Part 4 of “What has Jon been up to?”
A little personal project. We got this beautiful painting on the Piton Mountains on our Honeymoon in St. Lucia last year. It’s been needing a nice frame and I finally got around to making one from these GORGEOUS scraps of mahogany I had. And I transferred a photo from our wedding onto this little tree round!
Big shoutout to for the tutorial video on how to do that!

Part 3 of “What has Jon been up to?”
Another project that’s way different than my usual stuff! I replaced all the boards on this trailer with some very nice southern yellow pine! All tongue and groove and let me tell just how fun it was to cut the joinery on my tiny little router table…
Swipe to see my over the top set up 😂😂

Part 2 of “What has Jon been up to…?
Just a little mountain shelf. Definitely not my normal type of project, but it was fun none the less!

Here’s part 1 of “What has Jon been doing…?” Lol
I’ve been really bad at posting my projects on here lately so you’re gonna see a whole bunch posted this week of all the stuff I’ve worked on in the last few months!!
First up is this little wooden sign for ’s classroom! Sign made by me and painted by her!

Every time I pick up a chisel I am reminded of when I bought this $30 set from lowes, spent 2 days flattening and sharpening them all by hand, and immediately destroying the project I was working on the first time I used them.
But I’d say this is pretty good work for an $8 chisel at 9am on a Sunday.
When I first started woodworking I always knew that chisels were important but it took a long time to figure out how and when to use them. Now I use them all the time and I think it might soon be time to invest in a good quality set.
So what chisels do you use? What do you like/dislike about them? I’m considering sets from and
Would love to hear your thoughts in the comments!
Shop was once again in need of a good cleanup. Nothing better than a clean and organized shop!
Now if I can figure out how to keep it that way, we’ll really be in business! Lol
Not sure if I can make this into a real “series” or not but here’s the first installment of “Cool Sh*t I Made Out of Free Lumber”
Over the past couple of years I’ve been collecting (and hoarding) a bunch of free lumber and all my scraps. I figured it’s time to do something with it.
It was well past time to replace our old worn out mattress. They wanted $300 for a new box spring…yea right
So I made this platform to put the mattress on completely out of lumber I got for free. Whole thing cost me about 12 hours of labor on my day off and about $13 worth of screws!!
What do you think? Should I do more of these? Let me know!
Juggling about 6 different big projects over the past 6 months while simultaneously getting married, going on a honeymoon, buying a house, helping your wife heal from a badly broken leg and more led to QUITE the disaster in the shop. I’ve got 8 projects on the books over the next 4 months and there was no way I was getting any of them done with a messy shop.
So here’s a little shop tour after my 2 days of cleaning. Still a little messy, and lots of things need upgraded but all in due time.

Almost 6 months it took me to completely overhaul this beautiful Ice Palace ice box made in the early 1900s!
A LOT of time and energy went into this restoration and it came out better than expected.
By far the most challenging restoration I’ve done, and one of the most difficult projects I’ve worked on to date! Let me know how I did!
