Red Fern Animal Rescue is a 501(c)(3) non-profit foster-based animal rescue in Denver that saves animals from abandonment and neglect in South Texas for new lives in Colorado.
🌸Emma🌸You’ve probably seen posts about Emma over many years. This absolutely SWEET AS CAN BE girl has been through a lot, first living in a shelter for two years where staff lovingly refused to put her on the euthanasia list. After coming to Colorado and being assessed we saw the damage that being abandoned in a rural shelter had done to our poor girl, despite great efforts made by staff. Emma is amazing with people! She’s not shy and will sit right in your lap for pets and kisses, if you’ll allow. However, Emma does not do great with other animals. Her best chance at the best life she deserves is to live at home as the only pet. We know this is a tall order to fill, especially in pet obsessed Colorado! Our dog selective or dog unfriendly dogs are the ones who sit forever. They’re the ones we worry about most, the ones who need us most. We have been incredibly lucky to be able to board her with a great trainer for the last three years. Through all the ups and downs he has been there for her and shown her the consistency and love she truly deserves and craves. Her time boarding, however, has come to an end due to changing circumstances that are no one’s fault. Emma can no longer stay boarding with her favorite person in the world after October. We know she will miss him but we also know she loves everyone she meets and will surely fall in love again. WE NEED A MIRACLE! We need a home with no other animals. We need someone who doesn’t mind that their dog doesn’t want dog friends. We need someone who can be there for Emma and love her through her golden years just as much as she will love them. She is an easy, non-reactive walker, an older gal who still has spurts of energy where she might zoom or pick up a toy and toss it, but on the lazier side. She’s happy with small walks and snuggles on the couch. When it comes down to it, Emma just loves LOVE. She lives for it. Can you be this incredibly sweet senior girl’s hero? 💜Our sweet girl Freya is back in boarding. She needs a foster or adopter asap to bust her out! You might’ve heard her story already. Freya’s life started as a neglected “outside” dog in the desert, becoming pregnant and then discarded with her babies and sister. So many people have stepped up to help this sweet girl along the way! From the person who rescued her directly from the desert to the fosters she’s had to the transporters, boarding and day care facilities- Freya has won over many hearts. She started her life only knowing cruelty from humans but never closed her heart to us. Once she felt safe we could clearly see she was the happiest, friendliest girl that the world she came from never deserved! Freya is dog friendly, crate trained, great in the car, easy on leash and on the eyes!😍 We know even after she’s been with us for three months that her perfect home is out there, they just haven’t found her yet. Freya is down for an adventure, but also happy to walk around your neighborhood and cuddle on the couch. She is a pretty quiet girl, not destructive and very food motivated. She’s learned a few skills from our resident trainer/behaviorist and absolutely loves to learn!!! Freya is currently looking for a foster or adopter to step up for here ASAP! Her last foster had originally signed up for a temporary gig and amazingly agreed to keep Freya longer than planned. Unfortunately, due to work schedules and every day life Freya is needing to move on to her next safe place to wait for her family. Can you help a gorgeous girl out? 🌸Melia: This girl is dog and kid friendly and totally ignores the cat in her current foster home. She would love to have a dog sibling to play with, loves to run and would be a great adventure buddy! Crate trained, food motivated and sweet as can be. She is more than ready for her forever!
💚Manny: This boy is dog friendly, on the older side, lazy and cuddly! He loves to be by your side, is very much an easy walker and crate trained. If you want a dog but aren’t super active, prefer snuggles and leisurely walks then he is your man!
💙Kylo: He is a shy and compact cutie who loves to go for runs! Dog friendly and shy with humans at first but once he warms up he is all yours forever. Kylo is currently in training to overcome his stranger danger fears and is doing incredibly!
🗻Ranger: He is very dog friendly, people shy and needs time to warm up. For this reason he needs a home with a confident and friendly dog pal, he’s learning his leash skills and is very food motivated. He’s waiting for a patient home who can see just how much potential this boy has to be not only your dog’s best friend but yours too!

🧡Remy: This sweet, easy going, incredibly well trained and tolerant boy is being returned to Red Fern through no fault of his own. After six loyal years his mom has to give him up. Thankfully he is very well trained and easily adapts to new situations! He is very active despite being 7 years old, gets along great with every type of animals he’s met(dogs, cats and chickens!) and loves all humans. If you want a buddy to hike or run with who can go anywhere with you including boats and busses then apply for Remy now!
🌼Emma: Our sweetest, snuggliest, senior pitty girl has been looking for the right home for years. Though Emma cannot live in a home with other animals she is easy to walk, non reactive on leash and loves humans! She is a low maintenance girlie with low energy and loves a leisurely walk just as much as hanging in the yard by your side. She is crate trained and generally a great listener!
🌊Stitch: We are all at a loss as to why this amazing pup is still looking for his forever home! He LOVES water in all forms, is an incredibly brave explorer ready for any new adventure and loves other dogs! He’s snuggly and sweet, fun and well mannered, crate trained and easy to walk. We believe with patience and training he could live with cats too. He’s eager to learn and easy to work with! A true once in a lifetime BFF!
💚Paisley: This compact, goofy, sweet 3 year old girl is looking for a new home since her previously adoptive family is experiencing a medical crisis. She loves to play with humans and dogs! She is very sweet, gentle, and easily adapts to new situations. She is an easy walker, medium energy, housebroken and well behaved alone in the house and ready to be your best friend! Though her previous family did not work on crate training with her we believe she can learn 😊

What a transFURmation Ranger has made!
From partial paralysis on the streets of the Rio Grande Valley in February to enjoying walks and playtime in his foster home in Denver now, RANGER IS READY FOR HIS FUREVER HOME! This boy is the definition of many of the dogs Red Fern has saved over the years. We are honored to get the chance to see a dog in such desperate need finally getting the opportunity to thrive and be loved ❤️🐾
Ranger would make an amazing addition to a home! He is initially shy but incredibly sweet-natured with a touch of playful energy. Ranger would thrive in a home with a confident dog that loves to play and wants a buddy. He is looking for a home that will allow him the time to transition and adjust to a new environment. When he initially arrived in July, we anticipated it would take some time for him to come out of his shell, but boy did he prove us wrong! In a month’s time, his personality bloomed and he showed amazing progress quickly. Ranger is good with cats too! He loves his crate as it is his safe space and he also walks well on a leash.

UPDATE as of 9/4: Thank you Destiny for stepping up for Rex! BODI STILL NEEDS A FOSTER HOME NOW FOR TWO WEEKS ONLY
🆘URGENT SAN ANTONIO METRO AREA FOSTER HOMES NEEDED for 3 WEEKS ONLY
Rex was pulled at the last minute from the city’s high-kill shelter last week and is currently in boarding at a vet’s office. He is approx 1 year.
Bodi was pulled a month ago and has been in boarding for 4 weeks now. He is approx 5 years old.
Both boys are good with people and other dogs. They will be transporting to Colorado in 3 weeks. PLEASE consider helping a dog temporarily until transport. These dogs have experienced quite a bit of stress at the local city shelter in SA and would love to have a quiet home with a soft bed to relax.
