THE FORMAT - 4/10/26 - MISSION BALLROOM

first round consists of my most successful frames made on one single roll of Kodak Ektapan 3200. What a privilege and an honor it was to photograph this band who I’ve been listening to since I was 15 years old. Frontman Nate Ruess had nothing but lovely things to say, which included ambitions/plans to play Red Rocks next year. He also mentioned how the band wasn’t going to “hold the line” for the last 20 years but the fans did which compelled them to tour again. I think every person in the room would have held for 20 more. It was heartwarming to be among so many of my true peers on a wonderful Friday night at one of the best live music venues in the entire country. More to come from my digital camera.

does Gen Z know about Girl Talk?
-
That’s it. That’s the title. what do you think? You so often see (hear) trending audios here on IG which are basically just more boring and worse versions of what Girl Talk did. Of course, mashup DJs have existed since the inception of the art but this dude did it so well. This came out in 2008 when whipper-snappers were still hanging out on Club Penguin and watching Wizards of Waverly Place. I, on the other hand had already taken my first jaunt into the psychedelic realm after ingesting a fistful of psilocybin fungus which at my age was certainly a mistake. I should have listened to Officer Pratt (the D.A.R.E. cop- does Gen Z know about D.A.R.E.?), now I have Major Depressive Disorder- But of course so do/did my parents, so who knows who to blame? All this to say that I know what I’m talking about and Girl Talk would have absolutely RULED the social media landscape today.

woke up this morning with a paranoid thought process about how there’s are tens of people who watch my story within 1 hour of me posting it but never interact with my posts. I think of Joe Pesci in Goodfellas in the restaurant scene. Anyway, I let that pass, there are mix more confusing and troubling things that require my mental space and I can’t be taking psychic tick damage from people who don’t even know me. Have you guys seen the news this week, jeeze!

artist unknown, found near some razor wire.
In another alley we walked past a man sitting in his garage among dozens of tote bins working on his model train sets, we said good morning to him and kept going but I want to go try talk to him sometime soon.

eternally testing out new, old gear. An alert I had setup with KEH popped up in my inbox about this lens and I had to to pull the trigger. This early f/16 version of the lens is in incredible shape and has a super close minimum focusing distance which I’ll show off in some upcoming posts. I’ve been liking both the contrast and grain I’m getting out of Dilution A in my HC-110 development as well, it’s the strongest recommended by Kodak at a 1:15 dilution. Lots of people prefer a longer, more controlled development for highlight and shadow acutance but I’m following my heart into harsh contrast and an overall grittier, more depressed look.

burning film framing my favorite stuff has been habitual lately, chipping away at my goal of developing 100 rolls myself, always anxious to see how it turns out. Otherwise I have fallen back into a gear acquisition phase, albeit nothing new and the continuation of my Konica/Hexanon collection. The new FT-1 Motor is going strong and I’ve acquired the 21mm f/4 and the 24mm f/2.8 (not used for any of these) and I’ve set my sights on the more rare and expensive 28mm f/1.8 for which I’m looking to offload a Fuji lens. XF 50mm f/1 anyone?

my dad used to say “life’s a beach and then you surf”. I never really knew what it meant and now he’s dead.
