Our next RULE Satellite opens this Friday at Z Art Department in Denver. Z | Modern

Patterns of Influence brings together artists whose friendships and practices first took shape around CU Boulder in the late 1960s and 1970s. What began through proximity, conversation, and shared experimentation developed into a lasting network of influence—one that continued to shape their work across decades and remains visible in the relationships, ideas, and artistic legacies carried forward today.

Linda Herritt uses language as a visual material across large-scale fabric installations and watercolor monoprints. Text is enlarged, distorted, and partially obscured, shifting focus from reading to shape and pattern.

The wall works incorporate passages from Charles Dickens, while the monoprints draw from weather, natural phenomena, flowers, and other found phrases.

A meaningful spotlight on Charles Ross in the The New York Times

Ross broke ground on Star Axis in 1976, beginning a monumental work designed to make the movement of Earth and the scale of cosmic time perceptible. Nearly fifty years later, the land art work in New Mexico is close to completion.

The article traces the decades of thought, labor and persistence behind the project. It also gives meaningful attention to artist Jill O'Bryan, Ross’s partner and an essential presence in the life of Star Axis.

Congratulations to Charles on this deeply deserved recognition.

Nathan Abels has long been interested in the uneasy space between technology and progress. This deeply layered drawing folds both past and future into the same uncertain moment.

For Abels, technology rarely arrives as an answer. It becomes another way to consider what we believe the future will hold, and how quickly our visions of progress become artifacts themselves.

The drawing will be available to view in our flat file at RULE Marfa starting next week.

Evan Anderman’s aerial photography examines the intersection of human geometry and natural topography, documenting the precise, often stark interventions made upon the landscape.

On view in our group show ‘Hand Upon the Land’ and in our back gallery through August 1 in Marfa, Texas.

All works shown are pigmented ink prints in limited edition runs.

Susan Blake works across many media exploring pattern and color, offering rich visual texture that is both satisfying and dizzying. We love this one in particular for its bands of color shifting the grid into waves and unsettled systems. So much happening on the surface.
