DYK - Colorado Traction Law
Colorado Specifies September 1st as the beginning of “winter months”

During this time, if you travel from Morrison to Dotsero, cars must have snow tires installed, or tires with the mud/snow (M+S) designation; or vehicles must be four-wheel/all-wheel drive. The minimum tire tread required for driving under the Traction Law is 3/16 of an inch.

At anytime, during snowy conditions, CDOT will implement this traction law throughout Colorado and if you are in an incident and your tires are not up to par with their requirements, you may be fined over $650.

Snow is in the forecast! Here are a few winter tires I installed this past weekend. Artic Claw tires are great for any vehicle and give you that extra grip in the snow and ice while giving you a smooth ride on dry pavement. Hercules Avalanche RT tire made by Cooper, has a great tread design, made to rip through snow and grip while in the coldest of weather. Let me know if you need a tire quote.

What’s the main difference between a Winter Tire and an All Season Tire?
Winter tires will stay pliable when it comes in contact to the ground once the temperaturess drop below freezing maintaining traction.
All season tires, although can be driven in the winter, do not give you the best traction in the cold and snow. As with most rubber it stiffens as the temperature drops, not providing the most adequate traction you can get.

Here in Colorado, we will see those days, we will see the slushy days, the hard compact snow days and the powdery days. Be prepared for it all.
