Wrapped up a Marceline piece on a client's calf last week — Adventure Time fan from the Baker area near South Broadway, brought the concept in, we built it out into a full scene. Marceline playing bass guitar with Finn and Jake riding on top, pink and purple palette with a neon glow effect throughout. Six hours of color fill to get that vibrant illustration quality right — the kind of saturation that makes an anime piece pop when you see it in person. Larger pieces like this need planning. The client came in for a free consultation first so we could work out sizing, composition, and color direction before touching the stencil. Licensed artists, careful linework, the colors hold their vibrancy long-term. If you've got an anime character you want brought to life in ink, give us a call.

First Friday on Santa Fe Drive brings a lot of people through the Art District, and sometimes they walk into the studio. That's exactly what happened with this one. Client came in during First Friday, no appointment, wanted something small and personal. Walked out same day with a WALL-E piece on the inner wrist — WALL-E holding a red heart, with watercolor teal and red splashes around the character. Small, detailed, and it works perfectly in that wrist placement. Three licensed artists on staff means walk-ins can actually get seen without a long wait. Private studio so it doesn't feel like a shop floor — it's calm, comfortable, you can take your time. We've got spots for walk-ins most days, not just during art walks. Call us ahead if you want to make sure we can fit you in.

The stencil tells its own story — it’s the second most important part after the design. Everything depends on how you place it.

Stencil mapped, first ink going in — custom cartoon character taking shape on a client's upper arm. Client from the Sloan Lake area near Sheridan Blvd came in with a rough sketch and we worked through the design together, cleaned up the concept, built out the stencil, and this is session one. Three more sessions planned to complete the color and shading. The process matters as much as the result — getting the character outline right before any fill goes in sets up everything that follows. You can see it here: stencil still in red and purple, blue fill just starting to appear. That's exactly how a custom piece should begin. Licensed artists, OSHA certified shop on Santa Fe Drive. Consultation is always free, and we'll be honest about how many sessions a piece like yours will realistically take. Book a consult.
I just want to share my process in a way that’s engaging to watch—and shows how much I truly love what I do.

Black and grey realism takes time when you're going after this level of detail. This piece on the calf is a classical Greek or Roman figure — the kind of face you'd see on a Zeus or Poseidon statue, with a full flowing beard, dramatic shading, and stone texture rendering that makes it look carved rather than drawn. Getting that textural quality in ink means building up the shading in passes, controlling where the darks sit and where the mid-tones breathe. Started as a walk-in consultation, came back for a custom piece. The studio's quiet, private rooms, no rush — exactly the kind of environment this kind of slow detailed work needs. Free touch-up included after healing. Licensed artists, Lincoln Park neighborhood off Kalamath. Book a consult if you've got a realism concept you want done properly.
My basic set up, things what people usually can’t see.🙂 📸 thank you !

Client came in with a reference photo — a female anime character with purple hair and green eyes, holding a flower — and wanted it done in color on her forearm. Not a copy, a real interpretation. We spent the free consultation working through how to translate that into ink: the painterly color blending she wanted, the way the petals needed to fade at the edges, the soft semi-realism that makes it feel alive rather than flat. Session itself ran about five hours. The saturation work on those purple tones took patience — layering color to hit that anime-to-realism fusion without losing the delicate features. It's sitting on her forearm now and it reads beautifully. Studio's on Santa Fe Drive in the Art District, OSHA certified workspace, licensed artists on staff. If you've got a character or concept you want brought to life in ink, call us to book a consultation.
