What was your least favorite food when you were young? Has it now become your favorite food?
My mother was a gourmet cook. Everyone, both family and friends who were invited over for dinner, praised her food. However, whenever she served a salad with avocados or Mexican food with guacamole, I would find a way to hide it in a napkin and quietly throw it away after dinner.
We even had an avocado tree growing in our backyard and my mother would pick the ripest ones for dinner. However, whenever I saw a ripe avocado fell to the ground, I would toss it as a ball for the dog to run and fetch.
What was I thinking? Today it is one of my favorite foods. I'm happiest when I can slice a ripe avocado into a salad and add a splash of fresh lemon on top. (Yes, we also had a lemon tree.)
My favorite way to eat avocados? As guacamole, that includes lemon juice, salsa, and a tablespoon of sour cream on top.
