As Reuse Runway continues to grow, we are entering a new exciting phase of development.

For the upcoming year, the runway will be taking a pause from the Redbud Festival to form as our own nonprofit organization and independent entity.

This step allows us to create programming, experiences, and connect with our community on a deeper level that fully reflects our mission and long-term vision. We as a small team have big dreams for this organization, and haven't had time to really develop and implement them. This pause will allow us to spend time working on our programing on a deeper level to allow for some exciting changes in 2027!

Sweden’s ReTuna shopping center reimagines retail by selling only repaired, upcycled, and secondhand items. Instead of discarding waste, broken electronics, furniture, and clothing from local recycling centers are restored and redesigned on site by skilled craftspeople. Each store operates alongside a workshop, turning discarded goods into functional, stylish products. The concept reduces landfill waste, cuts resource consumption, and proves that sustainability and good design can coexist. ReTuna stands as a practical model for circular economies, showing how everyday consumption can be reshaped around reuse rather than constant production.

Shelly Xu Designs is revolutionizing the fashion industry with innovative software that significantly reduces textile waste, paving the way for a more sustainable future.

This woman is making clothes without any waste! 👗🗑️ Here’s how @shellyxudesign came up with this idea and used hard work & software to start pulling off her vision of a waste-free future, which landed her on Norrsken’s Impact/100 list of the best ideas to “fix the future”. I partnered with @norrskenfoundation to tell some of the amazing stories on this list, and every time I check it out I’m inspired by someone new. Let me know what you think :)

In the Democratic Republic of Congo, a new wave of creativity is transforming the country’s waste problem into a visual revolution. Artists are taking plastic wrappers, rusted metal, and tangled wires—materials once buried in rivers or scattered across streets—and turning them into striking wearable art. These bold creations appear in parades, street performances, and community events, merging ingenuity with social commentary. What began as a response to scarcity has evolved into a statement of resilience and vision. Each piece challenges the excesses of global consumption while celebrating local resourcefulness, drawing attention from international art circles, environmental advocates, and photographers alike. It’s interesting how people are reusing old clothes .

Obroni Wawu means "dead white man's clothes". The term arose in Ghana initially because locals believed that the only reason someone would give away such an abundance of clothing was if they were deceased. These colonial power dynamics persist today. 15 million used garments enter Kantamanto each week from countries including the UK, USA, Germany and France - a result of Big Fashion's greedy oversupply, and our excessive consumption, carefree "donations" and throwaway culture. @ObroniWawuOctober is an annual festival that celebrates the Kantamanto community, showcasing upcycling and thrift culture in Ghana. It’s a stunning demonstration of people who deeply understand and appreciate the true value of clothes and textiles, transforming cast-offs into the freshest fits I’ve ever seen! Despite these incredible efforts, Big Fashion brands refuse to acknowledge - let alone pay for - their work, and refuse to listen to their demands. One of which is @TheOrIsPresent’s #SpeakVolumes campaign, which is asking brands of all sizes to disclose their annual production numbers by Black Friday 2025. @NoMoreFastFashionLab

The way designers are challenging the notion of what clothing is made for me is intersting.
