South Florida Shuttles Case Study

South Florida Shuttles came to us here at WebDugout unhappy with their current web hosting. They wanted the ease of being able to log on whenever they needed to add, change or delete content. Under their current contract, they were unable to do that and would have to wait several days to weeks before the changes were made while still being billed. WebDugout was able to alleviate that hassle and give them full access to their site around the clock. The big thing for South Florida Shuttles was keeping their current web design as they really liked the layout of it.

That was no problem for our web specialists here and we were able to easily transfer their site over to our V5 Content Management System. Now, South Florida Shuttles was able to keep their original design that has generated large amounts of traffic AND are now able to access their site whenever they need to make a chance, without having to WAIT.

The WebDugout Web Design Process

WebDugout believes in a simple and direct website design process based on communication between our Long Island web design team and the client (anywhere in the U.S.). Our web design process is broken down into five simple steps:

Step 1 – Point of Sale
A web design / web development package is first selected that contains all the functions your business needs. Once we get the "green light" to move forward, we begin with a web design consultation.

Step 2 – Web Design Consultation
A web design questionnaire will be sent to you to fill out. With that information in hand, our Long Island website design team will schedule a Design Consultation via phone. (New York web design clients, particularly Long Island web design clients, may prefer to have their Design Consultation in our Deer Park, New York, office.) Once we have an understanding of your taste and preferences, we will move to the next step.

Step 3 – Start of Design
The website design team will now input all the information gathered from Steps 1 and 2 into a layout for you. The layout will be displayed on a private domain for you to view.

Step 4 – Revisions
Now that you have reviewed the website, any minor adjustments can be made.

Step 5 – Finalize and Approve
With the web design complete, your staff gives final approval, and your new website is launched.

(Above steps may be altered to accommodate certain web packages and add-ons.)

Blades Edge Knives Added to Client Roster

Before consulting with WebDugout, the owner of Blades Edge Knives tried using an online website-building service. The site he began working on looked decent. But when he needed customer support, he found that availability for customer service was limited. The options were either an online chat or a return phone call at least a day later after leaving a message. Unfortunately, many new business owners cannot afford to wait around for assistance.

Blades Edge [sic], a seller of fantasy, pocket and tactical knives, also required a site that would meet specific needs for e-commerce. The site-builder in question had some templates from which to select. Though in order to obtain what was needed, the business owner would have to continually upgrade and pay more fees. The site-building company would frequently call and email to push upgrades and additions.

Looking for alternatives, the owner of Blades Edge found WebDugout. He stopped by our office and a sales consultant was happy to speak with him about the needs for the website. Following the agreement to create a custom-site, bladesedgeknives.com was up and running within a few weeks.

“The support I have received from [the WebDugout] team was and still is fantastic. There were no hidden fees or agendas.” – Jack, owner of Blades Edge Knives.

The Importance of a Responsive Web Design

Since smartphones with integrated mobile browsers became prevalent in the mid-2000s, users have been viewing sites that were customarily designed to fit on desktop computer screens. The smaller devices could display sites the same way as desktops, though it was awkward to navigate.

Now that mobile devices and tablets with smaller displays have become the most common way for people to view the web, a better viewing format has become essential. In fact, two out of three people are now using a mobile device to access the internet. Therefore, it is more crucial than ever that your business has a site with a compatible viewing format across the board, no matter what size screen.

With a responsive web design you can have one quality site that can be viewed smoothly on all desktop, tablet, and mobile screens. A term coined in 2010, responsive web design is a technique aimed at providing an optimal viewing experience. It makes for easy reading and navigation with minimal resizing, panning, and scrolling. It allows your site to adapt seamlessly to all screens. While desktops may display three columns on screen, a responsive site will allow a mobile device to reduce this to one column, while maintaining proportions for user-friendly viewing.

Aside from the visual advantages, there are other substantial benefits.

You only need to work with one site, one admin login and one URL. A site with responsive web design simplifies marketing, search engine optimization and content management without having to develop and manage content for multiple sites. It saves time and money and is a cost-effective alternative to mobile applications. More importantly, it will bring your site closer to the top of search results in Google, which is giving responsive web design sites higher rankings as of April 2015.

We want to see your business succeed. It’s quick and easy to upgrade. Using WebDugout’s responsive web design service will allow people to view your site with optimal navigation.

Search Engine Optimization | SEO Service | WebDugout | Long Island Web Design

HOW TO INCREASE YOUR WEBSITE’S RANKING AND GENERATE MORE TRAFFIC.

Quality Content – Google has a very watchful eye regarding duplicate content. Don’t copy whole content from other websites, it’s going to affect your SEO rankings.

Engage Your Reader - Create descriptive and interesting articles. Capturing your audience’s attention will entice them to stay on your page, share your content and return back to your site.

Title Tags – Search engines give significant weight to title tags. Make sure your title is relevant to the page content. Try to use 65 characters or less and one or more of your keywords, but not too many.

Keyword Density Ratio – Avoid Google Algorithm penalties by maintaining your keyword density safely. Not enough keywords are unclear to the search engines regarding what the page is about and too many keywords looks like you are trying to spam.

First Paragraph – Positioning your keywords is important. Place your keywords in the first and last paragraph; it’s more likely to catch the eye of search engines.

Image optimization – Compress website images to ensure your site loading quickly. Use keywords when naming image files. Also use “alt” tags to describe the image and place keywords in the description.

IS YOUR WEBSITE GETTING LESS TRAFFIC FROM THE SEARCH ENGINES?

Antique cars gain value as they age but unfortunately not websites. Updating your website constantly, improves search ranking results and it should be done so people can find you easily on the web. Search engines perform updates regularly and they make it a priority to list pages that are new and relevant.

HERE ARE 5 TIPS TO BOOST YOUR WEBSITE RANKING

Your Content Is Stale

Old content is probably the biggest problem with older websites. Many times content hasn’t been changed since the website was first created. An indicative sign of stale content is when the latest news release was published during a past major holiday. Not only does that look unattended and careless to users, but Google sees it and penalizes that behavior.

You don’t have to rebuild your entire website’s content, but you should update all of your primary pages. Modify some of the content and include some of the keywords you have recently identified. Your news section should definitely be updated with current events and news on a regular basis.

The best way to keep a flow of fresh content is to set up a blog. You may not be able to post a new blog every day, but once a week would be valuable. Search engines love to see new blog posts published on a regular basis; users also like to see it because it exhibits that your company is active and current.

Your Design Is Unattractive

It’s important to continuously update and maintain your website’s design and content. Overall website designs have moved to a more uncluttered look over the past few years. Users want a less invasive site bombarding them with suggestions on what to visit.

Broken Links

Links naturally break on a website therefore check them. One of the ways search engines rank websites are by crawling their links. If there are dead links on your website, it can stop search engine spiders from crawling your site and thus, indexing it.

Comparison

You may not have the budget to totally renovate your website and that’s okay. At least you should reexamine your menu navigation to make sure it makes sense. After that, start to look at the entire design look and feel and improve what you are able to. Focus on fewer but larger high-quality images and graphics. You may want to update the fonts used on your site to Keep with current trends.

You Forgot About SEO

You maybe frighten if you haven’t looked at the SEO for your site in a while. If you didn’t structure the original SEO then you absolutely must look at it. Unfortunately the original SEO strategies used when your site was launched may be considered hurtful according to Google. Log in to the Google Webmasters portion of your site and check for any nasty notifications from Google. Things might look scary now but they can be fixed eventually.

Call Webdugout today for a FREE WEBSITE EVALUTION. We will carefully analyze your site and provide you with additional valuable information.

Long Island Cancer Charity | Cancer support

WebDugout Receives Award from Kenny Warren Foundation!

WebDugout is proud to receive an award from the Friends of Kenny Warren Foundation in appreciation for designing its website. Steve Palopoli and John Mannino accepted the award on behalf of WebDugout at North Hills Country Club during the Cremosa Food Company's annual golf outing, benefitting the Friends of Kenny Warren Foundation.

The mission of the Foundation is to help kids with cancer and their families. The foundation was started in honor of Kenny Warren. Kenny passed away in September 2007 at the age of 21, following a brief but courageous battle against a rare form of Lymphoma. It was in his memory that hundreds of people from Long Island, New York and New Jersey gathered to raise money for this amazing charity. The money raised goes directly to the families who have a child suffering from cancer to help ease the financial burden that comes along with this dreaded disease.

While we were humbled to be acknowledged on this emotional night, the real honor goes to the brave children affected by cancer and the families who provide all they can for them.

We encourage you to visit the Kenny Warren Foundation site (http://www.friendsofkennywarren.com/) and become involved in any way possible to help this invaluable cause.

friendsofkennywarren.com Welcome to 'The Friends of Kenny Warren Foundation' website. Kenny is a beloved son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin and friend. In his honor, our mission at “The Friends of Kenny Warren Foundation”, is to help the 10,000 children that are diagnosed with cancer, in the United States each year.

5 Email Marketing Tips for Small Businesses

Email marketing is an effective, inexpensive way to reach your customers. Done right, it can become your most valuable tool to keep people informed about your latest products or services.

So how do you go about launching a strategic plan without over-flooding your customers’ inboxes?

Here are 5 helpful tips to get you started.

1. Make subscribing easy – This usually entails a simple icon on your home page that people can click on. Once users access the form, the information requested should be as minimal as possible to accommodate shrinking attention spans. An email address, username and password should nicely do the trick. And if you’re seeking additional personal information, try to only stick to the basics such as job title and company name.

2. Inform subscriber what to expect – If you’re offering multiple products/services, try to list each one in detail as succinctly as possible on your signup form. Whether they’re coupons, daily deals or a weekly newsletter, make sure the descriptions are clear so customers can choose the right option for them. Simply put, people can decide whether or not they want to subscribe.

3. Scannable is best – No matter what the profession, everyone experiences email overload. Therefore, your marketing email may go unread, or worse, wind up in the trash. To get that message opened, think of a catchy subject line to attract people’s attention. Once they’re “in”, make sure the content is broken up into short paragraphs so the email is scannable and reader-friendly. Less is more, especially when it comes to email.

4. Send people the content they want – You’ve seen what your readers have signed up for in their contact forms. Now you have to make sure you give them the content that they’ve asked for. Don’t be afraid to ask for user feedback from time to time. Thanks to social media, everyone has an opinion these days and they’re not afraid to share it. Many people welcome a platform to express their voice and a short feedback form can do just that. If you stick to 2-3 questions you should be fine.

5. Create a publishing calendar – If it’s a newsletter service you’re providing, it’s essential to plan, write, design and send your newsletters regularly. An editorial calendar with assigned writers, relevant topics and deadlines will keep your team on schedule. And of course, make sure your branding and editorial voice remain consistent in each edition. This includes word length, writing style and the number of articles you provide to your audience. The more engaging your content, the more your readers will look forward to opening your email.

WebDugout is excited to unveil the upgraded website for Roll-n-Roaster, a popular restaurant in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn.

Not far from Coney Island, this reputable establishment has been serving its acclaimed roast beef sandwich since the dawn of the 1970s. Much of the décor, signage and architecture of Roll-n-Roaster has remained intact since its inception. The site designed by WebDugout was able to match the spirit of the iconic eatery.

Rollnroaster.com, which was using the decreasingly favorable Adobe Flash Player, was updated to our V5 platform that includes a mobile-friendly design. The site now employs modern usability, while maintaining the classic look of the restaurant’s orange, brown and yellow color presentation. Just as importantly, potential customers looking for food in the area can now easily access the site on mobile devices.

SEO Case Study: Always Affordable Chimney

www.alwaysaffordablechimney.com

Following our completion of the website for Always Affordable Chimney, WebDugout consulted with the New York-based business on driving organic traffic to the site.

Before implementing our strategy for search engine optimization (SEO), our client’s rankings for significant keywords were not found within the first ten pages of search results in Google.

The services we agreed to target included installation of chimney liners, chimney cleaning service, commercial chimney pipes and chimney service rope access.

Following a six-month campaign of regularly added content, strategic placement of keywords and link-building, rankings in search engine results have advanced substantially.

As of July 2015, Always Affordable Chimney appears within the first 20 result entries in Google when searches are entered for several sets of relevant keywords including:

• Brownstone chimney liner
• chimney cleaning Long Island
• chimney inspection Queens
• chimney rope access
• emergency chimney service
• industrial chimney pipes
• commercial chimney pipes

Although this client is based in Long Island, WebDugout’s expert SEO team was able to broaden exposure for its services throughout the New York metro area.

Contact WebDugout today to discuss how we can improve your company’s online presence.
