Did you know American alligators are one of the few reptiles known to care for their young? After hatching, baby alligators stay close to their mother, who helps protect them during their early days.🐊

We are saddened to learn of the passing of Vicki English, who served as the welcoming hostess of our Museum for 35 years.

During her remarkable 35-year career, Vicki welcomed and inspired hundreds of thousands of Field Trip students, teachers and families at the original Cook’s Natural Science Museum, the precursor of today’s Cook Museum of Natural Science. Her passion, dedication, and service helped lay the foundation on which the current museum is built.

Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Did you know that green moray eels don’t have scales? Instead, their skin is covered in a thick layer of protective mucus that helps shield them from parasites and abrasions as they squeeze through rocky crevices.

Their green color isn’t from their skin! It’s the yellowish mucus coating over their dark gray or brown body that gives them their green appearance!
