Knowledge is power when it comes to your health and the health of your baby. 🩺✨
May is **Preeclampsia Awareness Month**, a time dedicated to education, advocacy, and life-saving conversations. Preeclampsia is a serious blood pressure disorder that can happen during pregnancy or the postpartum period. While it can affect any birthing parent, it disproportionately impacts Black mothers, who are at a significantly higher risk for severe complications.
**Know the Signs:**
⚠️ Severe headaches that won't go away
⚠️ Swelling in the hands and face
⚠️ Vision changes or seeing "spots"
⚠️ Pain in the upper abdomen or shoulder
⚠️ Sudden weight gain (more than 2-5 lbs in a week)
If you experience these symptoms, listen to your body and contact your healthcare provider immediately. Timely, life-saving care starts with recognizing the warning signs.
**How to Support Heart Health:**
🥗 Focus on a heart-healthy diet rich in calcium and magnesium.
💧 Stay hydrated and monitor your salt intake.
🧘♀️ Prioritize rest and stress management.
Let’s spread awareness and ensure every parent has the information they need to prevail. 🕊️💪

Is Your Supplement Cabinet Hiding a Heart Risk? 🦴💔
We’ve been taught that calcium is the ultimate bone-builder, but is getting it from a pill doing more harm than good? 💊 A massive brand-new study from April 2026 in the Journal of the American Heart Association reveals that for those with established heart disease, calcium supplements are associated with an increased risk of recurrence.
The Quick "Heart-Check":
📊 Recurrence Risk: Supplementation was linked to a 10% higher risk of a recurring heart event.
🚫 The "Pill" Penalty: Calcium-only use showed a higher risk (21%) compared to those taking it with Vitamin D.
🧔 Men Beware: The association was even more pronounced in men than in women. Why is Mother Nature’s "Complex Web" still the gold standard for your health?
🎻🥦 We’re breaking down the science of why your plate beats the pill every time and sharing our top 5 "Power Move" food swaps!

This Memorial Day, we pause to honor the brave individuals who gave their lives in service to our country. As we remember their sacrifice, we also recognize that the "freedom" they fought for includes the right to a healthy, thriving life for the families they left behind.
At Pea Pod Nutrition, we honor their legacy by continuing our work to dismantle the barriers that prevent Georgia’s families from accessing the care they deserve. True remembrance means building a future where health equity is a reality for every community.
Today, we remember. Tomorrow, we continue the work.

Self-care isn't selfish—it's essential. 🕊️✨
This Maternal Mental Health Month, we want to remind every birthing parent that it is okay to take a break. Whether you are in the "fourth trimester" or years into your parenting journey, your mental health is just as important as your physical recovery.
As the images show, maternal health doesn’t end at delivery. Support means more than just checking on the baby; it means nourishing the parent, lending a hand with chores, and providing a safe space to say, "I’m overwhelmed."
If you’re feeling anxious, drained, or struggling to find your footing, please know that you are not weak—you are human, and you don't have to carry this alone. 🤍

Is the changing climate slowing your roll? 🌡️ A brand-new 2026 study in ***The Lancet Global Health*** reveals that rising temperatures are fueling a global "sedentary transition," making it harder than ever to get those outdoor miles in.

Mama, if you’re feeling more "scattered" than "serene" lately, this is for you. 🧠✨
For Maternal Mental Health Month, we’re talking about the secret weapon in your postpartum toolkit: The Food-Mood Connection.
We know, we know—sometimes "lunch" is just the crusts off a PB&J. But your brain needs more than leftovers to help you navigate the wild ride of motherhood! Here is the lowdown on eating for your headspace:
🐟 Omega-3s = The Brain Guard: Found in salmon or walnuts, these are literal "brain food" that help fight off the "baby brain" fog and support mood stability.
🥚 Choline = The Focus Fuel: Eggs are a mama's best friend for staying sharp when you're running on 4 hours of sleep.
🫐 Antioxidants = The Stress Shield: Berries help your body handle the physiological stress of parenting.
💧 Hydration = The Energy Anchor: Sometimes that "3 p.m. slump" is actually just thirst in disguise!
The Golden Rule: We’re aiming for nourishment, not perfection. If you managed a salad and a chocolate bar today? That’s a win. 🥗🍫
You’re doing an incredible job, but remember: you can’t pour from an empty cup (or an empty stomach). ☕️❤️
