Greetings from the sunny Dewitt Farmers Market! Come find me in front of Scoopy Doo’s to say hi.

This summer is flying by for our family. I’m to share stories with you while we celebrate Pride!
Dewitt is a pretty conservative town, but events like this one help me feel safer and more welcome.
See you in twelve days!

Today I planted my eastern prickly pear seeds and started cold stratifying sundial lupine, purple false foxglove, and short’s aster. (.25 oz of lupine seeds doesn’t sound like much until you have to scar every single one.) Morgana was very interested but literally everything she touches goes right in her mouth right now, so she didn’t get to play with the soil. Hopefully next year she can help!
I also finally got my sunflowers in the ground and did some weeding. Some times you really do just need to touch grass, huh?

If you notice it’s quieter than usual around here, it’s because I’m helping out at my favorite nonprofit for the summer. I founded Constellation Cat Cafe in 2019 and it’s one of the best things I’ve ever made. I left in the fall to have my baby, but am now back for a few months to help with their big move into Old Town.
I’ll catch you this summer at the Dewitt Farmers Market as The Local Fable — but if you see me when you’re grabbing a latte at the cat cafe, please say hi!

Happy Earth Day! 🌎
In six weeks, I’ll be side by side with some of my favorite farmers, bakers and makers at the Dewitt farmers market.

I read “Make Way for Ducklings” to Morgana this morning and realized I’ve never read it before (or if I have, I didn’t remember the story at all)! I expected to love it but didn’t expect it to feel new. Thanks for the sweet gift! 10/10, totally deserved that Caldecott.
We’re doing 1000 books before kindergarten and since we have infinite children’s books in this house (and a very long time until kindergarten), I’m being extra fussy and trying to only count each new book. (Like, we read Harold and the Purple Crayon every week but it’s only on the list once.) So far we’re at 293 unique books.
I’m also trying a new thing where I keep my phone in the other room while Morgana is awake. I get out my phone to take a picture of her and boom I’m scrolling instagram. So attempting to do less of that. One challenge is that we log everything in the Huckleberry app — nap time, bottles, diaper changes — otherwise that’s all Ryan and I talk about. This morning I just wrote it all on paper and put in my phone after she fell asleep. Even her reading log is on my phone, but that’s easy to fill out after the fact, because I just stack up the books until they’re logged in Beanstack.
If you have any effective strategies for staying off your phone and being more intentional with your kid, please tell me.

TODAY!
1. Please come visit (yes, even if you probably won’t buy anything)
2. Invite a friend (duh, everyone you know also loves supporting local women-owned businesses)
3. Share to your story/page because this business has roughly the same amount of followers as the sourdough account I made during Covid

My pile of books is a mile high
How I love them! How I need them!
I’ll have a long beard by the time I read them

Quick update: I’m not participating in The Hatching tomorrow night. Truthfully running a business (even a lil tiny one) with a baby is very different than running a business before I had a baby. Thanks for being so supportive of The Local Fable while I’m figuring out my capacity!
I got around 500 new-to-us books in the last week, and more come next week. Excited to get them out to your families soon! 💚
PS if anyone has friends at Apple, I would like a dark green heart emoji. Bright green is just not working for me.
