Bringing Rust to Life

10/01/2026

In honor of Brandon taking his ASE tests today, here is an automotive themed picture. This car(I'm pretty sure still) sits at the old lot where he very first started.

I do not want to know where this thing goes....or maybe it's a secret portal to Japan...then I NEED to go!

Does it bother anyone else but me that there is a Highway to Hell but only a Stairway to Heaven? Talk about anticipated traffic numbers!**
Anyway...here are some stairs. I have more but appear to have misplaced them in a different album and I'm too tired to go look.

Also, please keep my mom MaryLou Capone Volchko in your prayers tomorrow and in the following days!

**joke is not my own, but one I vaguely remember from an old meme**

Found these in Yellow Springs a long time ago and I just think turning filing cabinets into planters and letting nature take its course is a wonderful idea. Plus the way I caught the light and the color! I'm going to brag on myself for a second! When you have good material to work with like these rusty cabinets, it's hard not to stop and stare.
Hope you enjoy these beauties.

You can't ride in my little red wagon
Front wheels broken
And the axle dragging....

Oh you can't ride in my little red wagon
ANYMORE TODAY!

(part of a cute little song I learned at Camp Whitewood many moons ago)

I know my page is dedicated to humble rust, but I gotta take a moment and talk about God's Grace.
Without it, I literally wouldn't be alive.
I'm reminded of that whenever I see a sky as beautiful as this.
Life is beautiful, even in the dark, but His Light will always shine so you are never alone in that darkness.

Ok. I'm done. Enjoy this sky!

This is a fun piece. A former coworker used to bring his dog in to the office, and on my lunch breaks, I would take him for a walk.
During one such walk, I found this beautiful piece. So naturally I stopped and took a picture.
I also picked it up and brought it home. It actually hangs on my wall above my desk.
Look it, lying there all okay with the world. I don't know how to explain it, but something just spoke to me.

When is the last time you received a genuine letter? I occasionally get cards from the ladies at church, but I can't remember the last time I got a hand-written letter. It is a lost art I tell you.
Anyway, enjoy this mailbox from my archives and I hope you too miss getting letters. (that way I don't feel weird and lonely lol)

Sorry for the lack of posts over the last couple days. This weather and rain has been brutal on my joints.

That said, here is some offerings from the world of rust.

I just took these the other night when Brandon and I ordered our new couch.

Psalm 119:105 reads Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. Deep in my faith, I know these words to be true. I walked a dark path for a very long time, and without Jesus, I'd be dead. That is not an exaggeration either. That is the truth.

I'm not entirely sure why this is heavy on my mind today, but what better way to honor it than to share a lamp.
This lamp was found in Waynesville at Scioto Square.
