As the gifts continue to come in, we would like to share how thankful we are for all of your support! There is still time to make a gift. Your gift allows us to provide workshops like Lean Startup, TechStars Startup weekend, and Hub & Spoke. These workshops were designed to expand skills in business communication, analytics, technology, and computing in a liberal arts capacity for students like Carson Crochet ‘22.

Carson Crochet ‘22 double majoring in German Studies and Arab Studies participated in our seven week building a Lean Startup course at the Hurt [email protected] this semester. She was interested in this course to gain knowledge on how to continue growing her business, CA’Buddy. CA'Buddy, which stands for "cancer buddy," is a company with the mission to raise awareness and money for underfunded, yet rare and highly lethal cancers. "I am most grateful for the incredible support in starting a business that I have with the Hurt Hub's staff and the connections I have made with other inspiring entrepreneurs in this innovative space”, Crochet shared.

While taking the Lean startup course, Carson applied for the Avinger Impact fund and was granted $10k to continue her business venture. The Hurt Hub team has gone above and beyond to encourage me in applying for grants, taking the Lean Startup class, and seeking help while starting my business. Without them, my dream of launching CA'Buddy would not be a reality”, Crochet said. This course has provided Carson the additional support she needs to help continue to grow and expand her business.

Your gifts, and support, make it possible for students like Carson to choose from a rotating selection of course series, focused on critical topics for any entrepreneur trying to bring an idea to life. We hope you’ll make a gift today, to help us bring more opportunities like this to our students.

We are more than a week into our crowdfunding campaign and we must say the support has been astounding. There is still time to make a gift! Your gifts help support and provide hands-on learning opportunities through programs such as Data CATS, CAT CLAWS, sponsored projects with specific professors and Gig-Hub for students like Hope Carpenter ‘22.

Hope Carpenter ‘22 is an English major and a Gig-Hub consultant at the Hurt [email protected]. She has been an integral part of the Hurt Hub’s growth as she works on the student Business Intelligence team through the Gig-Hub program. The student team collects and synthesizes data and information to help form the strategic direction of the Hurt Hub.

Hope’s ultimate goal at the Hurt Hub is to gain technical experience for the career path that she is interested in pursuing upon graduation. This hands-on learning has been a helpful experience for her and has broadened her horizons to great lengths. “My time on the Business Intelligence team has helped me to develop the tech skills I wouldn’t have been exposed to as an English major but have been instrumental in my success as a technical intern this past summer. I will be able to use these skills as I transition into my role as a technical analyst following my graduation from Davidson in May 2022”, Carpenter shared. We want to continue to provide this same opportunity to other Davidson students.

Your gifts, and support, make it possible for students like Hope to gain hands-on learning experiences for future career paths. We hope you’ll make a gift today, to help us bring more opportunities like this to our students.

Want to hire a student like Hope? Gig-Hub clients can be Davidson College alumni, members of the local community, and businesses across the country. Learn more about the program, https://lnkd.in/e-hQ9bC5.

Wow! What a great kickoff to our crowdfunding campaign to support the Jay Hurt Hub for Innovation and Entrepreneurship’s mission. We’ve seen a great response in the first few days, and there is still time to make a gift! Your gift allows our students to work with great people like Mbye Njie ‘04.

Meet Mbye Njie ‘04, founder of Legal Equalizer and the Innovator in Residence at the Hurt [email protected]. He is a true example of how we provide mentorship opportunities to our students.

Coming full circle back to where it all began at Davidson College, Mbye is able to expand his business venture, while being an example and a mentor to current students. “Being able to work with some of the brightest students in the world has been such an amazing experience. I wish there was a place like this around when I was a student”, Njie said.

Offering access to alumni, and local experienced professionals, allows the Hurt [email protected] to deliver guidance and support as students develop new ideas or explore the world of entrepreneurship. “My goal while I am here is to ensure that Davidson students understand the different phases of being an entrepreneur and to show students how their education can help solve some of the world’s most pressing challenges”, Njie shared.

Your gifts, and support, make it possible for our students to work with people like Mbye. We hope you’ll make a gift today, to help us bring more opportunities like this to our students.

Want to get involved yourself? We are always looking to recruit new mentors to our group. If you’re interested in becoming a mentor or you want to learn more about the program, please click here https://lnkd.in/edHCe2X4

Hello Friends,

The Jay Hurt Hub for Innovation and Entrepreneurship’s mission of facilitating access and exposure to innovation and entrepreneurship takes many forms. From offering mentorship, experiential learning opportunities, educational programming, access to capital and inclusive community coworking – there’s no shortage of ways that students and the community can engage with us.

However, most of these opportunities are only possible because of generous philanthropic support. We owe a great debt of gratitude to those who have supported us in the past, and we know there is even more opportunity to expand in the future.

We’re excited to announce today that we’re launching a crowdfunding campaign to support our mission. We’re also excited to tell you that Ed Van Deman ’69 is committing $100,000 to the Hurt [email protected] and challenging the community to provide additional support from at least 100 new donors!

Over the coming weeks, we look forward to sharing some stories with you about our great students, alumni and programs. We hope you’ll see the incredible work that goes on here every day and support the growth of the Hurt [email protected] by making a gift! Thank you, and we look forward to sharing more with you in the coming days!
