Fun facts about music programs…

🎶 Children who study music tend to have larger vocabularies and more advanced reading skills than their peers who do not participate in music lessons
🎶 Children with learning disabilities or dyslexia who tend to lose focus with more noise could benefit greatly from music lessons
🎶 Children who study a musical instrument are more likely to excel in all of their studies, work better in teams, have enhanced critical thinking skills, stay in school, and pursue further education
🎶 Young children who take music lessons show different brain development and improved memory over the course of a year

TMBC at The Lincoln Center is excited for a wonderful opportunity to partner with the River Music Experience and offer our first after school program! InTune is a music club for students 8-18. It gives your student a chance to explore all aspects of music. From instruments, to songwriting to singing to producing to maybe even being a DJ! Come explore where your imagination can take you! First meeting is TOMORROW from 5-6PM in the auditorium at The Lincoln Center and it’s FREE! And FREE is always in the budget! This club meets EVERY Tuesday! TMBC at The Lincoln Center is super excited to partner with Project Stamp who offers a free family photo day for QC residents! They will use these photographs for the public beautification of The Lincoln Center by “STAMPING” our neighborhood with our own narrative, our own brand, our own legacy.

This project is a countermeasure…a program with hopes to re-frame the narrative of the QC to focus on family and community. A way for neighbors to highlight neighbors.

Be a part of this wonderful event and get your photo taken for FREE! Help beautify our center! Join us TOMORROW from noon-4PM at The Lincoln Center!

#WhatsUpWednesday

Here’s what’s happening this week at TMBC at The Lincoln Center. We’re honored to partner with NAMI Greater Mississippi Valley as they have the necessary discussion around mental health. We all deal with it at some point in time…but do we talk about it? Find out more about this program and upcoming sessions…#Together 🖤

Talking about mental health is not a sign of personal weakness. Talking about it is essential for our collective health. Today only one in three Black adults who need mental health care receive it, and Black youth under the age of 13 are two times more likely to complete su***de than white children.

Stigma often prevents families from seeking help. Though mental health conditions are medical conditions that are treatable and living in recovery is possible. So let’s talk about this - join Bettina McWilliams Thursday evening, August 26 at TMBC Lincoln Center, Davenport for a free 90-minute seminar and dinner. NAMI volunteers will share their families' story of help and hope. https://bit.ly/3AqajTN

Black teens face discrimination 5X PER DAY, study says. The study found teenagers experienced racial discrimination through racial teasing, online experiences and in person.

Black people need places in which we can gather and be free from the mainstream stereotypes and marginalization that is in every other space we occupy. We need spaces where we can be our authentic selves without judgment and insecurity. We need spaces where we can simply be…

That’s what The Lincoln Center is here for. Our FOCUS is to create the space needed to just BE!
