When a hurricane or severe storm approaches, even everyday yard items can become dangerous projectiles. Patio furniture, potted plants, yard decorations, and broken tree limbs can cause significant damage to homes, vehicles, and neighboring properties when high winds arrive.
✅ Secure or store outdoor furniture.
✅ Trim dead or hanging branches.
✅ Remove loose debris from the yard.
✅ Check fences and gates for weak spots.
A quick 15-minute walk around your property today could help prevent costly damage tomorrow.

🚪🌪️ Your Garage Door Is a Hurricane Weak Spot
Many homeowners focus on windows and roofs before a storm but overlook the garage door. During hurricane-force winds, a failed garage door can allow pressure to build inside the home, increasing the risk of roof damage and even structural failure.
✅ Inspect your garage door for dents, loose hardware, or worn tracks.
✅ Test the door to make sure it opens and closes properly.
✅ Consider installing a hurricane-rated door or reinforcement kit if you live in a storm-prone area.
✅ Keep the area around the door clear of debris that could become wind-blown projectiles.
A few minutes of preparation today could help protect your home when severe weather arrives.

🌪️ The Hurricane Supply Kit Nobody Talks About
Most homeowners remember food, water, and flashlights—but what about the items that can make recovery easier after the storm?
📂 Keep copies of important documents, insurance policies, medication lists, phone chargers, and emergency contacts in a waterproof container or digital backup.
👉 If you have to evacuate or file a claim, having these essentials ready can save time, stress, and frustration.

The 2026 Hurricane Season officially kicked off this month. Preparation for the season should have already been underway around the first of May, so if you haven't put much thought into it, you're already behind the eight ball. However, we are in a curious Good News - Bad News situation.
For the past few years, our storm seasons have been shaped by La Niña or neutral conditions. This year is different. We now have a strong, rapidly developing El Niño, with some even calling it a “Super El Niño.”
The good news? El Niño creates a vertical wind shear that usually makes it harder for storms to organize in the Atlantic and Caribbean.
The bad news? The Gulf Coast often plays by its own rules. Gulf waters are already running about 1°–3° warmer than normal, and warm water is hurricane fuel. That means storms that sneak into or form in the Gulf can ramp up in a hurry and put the coastal areas of TX, LA, MS, AL, and FL in the crosshairs.
Bottom line: Fewer storms doesn’t always mean lower risk. Remember: It only takes one.
So, no matter where you are located, put that Hurricane Prep Plan into action today.

Cabinets Can Reveal Hidden Water Damage 🚨
That cabinet under your kitchen or bathroom sink could be telling you more than you realize. Slow leaks often go unnoticed for months, causing damage long before water is visible.
👉 Take a quick look (and sniff) under your sinks. Musty odors, warped wood, staining, or bubbling shelves can all be early warning signs of a hidden leak. Catching the problem early can help prevent costly repairs down the road.

Your HVAC Filter Does More Than You Think 😮
Your HVAC filter doesn’t just help with air quality—it also protects your system from unnecessary strain. A dirty filter can restrict airflow, force your unit to work harder, and even increase energy costs over time.
👉 During heavy-use seasons like summer and winter, check your filter monthly instead of waiting the standard 90 days. A quick swap now could help prevent bigger problems later.

Gutter Runoff Mapping
Cleaning gutters is important—but homeowners should also pay attention to where the water goes afterward.
During a rainstorm, check where your downspouts discharge. Water that pools near the home can slowly affect the foundation, crawlspace, or even lead to interior moisture issues over time.
So, the next downpour, grab an umbrella, do your best Gene Kelly, and dance around the yard. See if you can catch drainage problems before they turn into costly damage.

Hidden Water Highways
Spring moisture doesn’t always show up where the problem starts—it travels. Small cracks, worn seals, or aging plumbing can let water move quietly behind walls or under floors.
If you notice soft spots, bubbling paint, or a musty smell, don’t ignore it. These are early warning signs of hidden moisture that can lead to bigger damage over time.
Catching it early can make all the difference before it turns into a costly claim.

Fence & Gate Shift Check
Spring rain causes soil to expand and shift—sometimes unevenly. This can push fence posts out of place, making gates stick, sag, or stop latching properly.
If you notice a leaning fence or a gate that suddenly won’t close, don’t just adjust the hardware. Check the ground around it. Soft soil, pooling water, or repeated movement can point to drainage issues or soil shifting nearby.
These small exterior changes can be early signs of ground movement that may also impact areas around your home’s foundation over time.
