What a run by this young man!

I discuss how parental yelling during games actually distracts young athletes from focusing on their teammates and performance. I explain my firm belief that game day is too late to teach new skills or habits—you can only make minor adjustments. The real work happens during the week leading up to the game, where coaches and parents should focus on building proper habits and techniques.

This right here is exactly why I talk so much about leadership and character development in youth sports. The field is supposed to be a classroom for our kids to learn teamwork, discipline, and resilience. Instead, moments like this turn it into a spectacle of adult ego. If we want our kids to be leaders, we have to model that behavior first. Let the coaches coach, let the refs ref, and most importantly, let the kids play.

What’s the worst sideline behavior you’ve witnessed? Let’s talk about it below. 👇

Love > Performance. đź’Ż

It is natural to want our kids to be successful, put in the effort, and play hard in their sports. But as parents and coaches, our love and support can never be tied to the scoreboard or their athletic performance.

We have to remember that we aren’t just building athletes—we are building humans. We are raising future leaders, CEOs, spouses, and community members. Let’s make sure we are focusing on what truly matters: the character they build along the way.
Human 1st, Athlete 2nd. 🤝

Lead differently for your kids. Save the drinks for different venues. Sorry not sorry!

What happens when the games end? That’s why we have to raise good humans 1st and athletes 2nd.

We have to raise humans 1st and athletes 2nd. I don’t care how good you are. This will never be ok.
