House passes tax plan, setting up possible Medicaid cuts
The US House voted 216-214 on Thursday to approve a budget plan, with two Republicans joining Democrats in voting against the proposal. It includes tax breaks that many lawmakers believe could lead to significant cuts in Medicaid spending. The tax plan will be added to a larger bill that includes many priorities identified by President Donald Trump, and House Speaker Mike Johnson and Senate Majority Leader John Thune said they will look for at least $1.5 trillion in cuts to safety-net programs for that final package.
