Finally had a chance to build a piece that's been on the drawing board for years.
The objective was to design a functional side chair using less than 1 sheet of plywood. By juxtaposing and interlocking two right angles, a sculptural, but useful piece was created. The ¼” plywood is mitered together to form a rigid “skin”, which holds the piece upright and provides a lightweight but very strong occasional seat. When not in use, the chair can be seen as a simple, geometric sculpture.

The residence is organized on an east west axis for optimum passive solar orientation. A cantilevered roof provides yearlong shade for the entire building. A travertine wall serves as the backdrop for a grove of trees in a park like front yard setting. The primary entrance is a simple frosted glass cube.
