Did you know that the United States Postal Service Carriers in Dallas County do not have air conditioning in their trucks?

Are you aware of the tragic death of Eugene Gates, a USPS mail carrier that collapsed and eventually died after delivering mail in triple degree weather in Dallas. He lived in Lancaster which is part of the Great Southwest.

My son-in-law is a USPS mail carrier who lives in Glenn Heights. After talking to him about working conditions, I found out that:
1) No mail carrier trucks are air conditioned in Dallas County that includes DeSoto.

2) Mail carriers that transport business documents cannot let their windows all the way down for security reasons which intensifies the heat in the cabin. My son-in-law is one of these carriers.

3) Prior to the death of Eugene Gates, did you know mail carriers were prohibited from taking multiple breaks to cool off in air conditioned facilities? There is flexibility now but hasn’t been officially approved.

3) Did you know mail carrier trucks in the northern states are air conditioned where the average weather temperature is 84 degrees?

4) A plan to exchange the mail carrier trucks in the northern states with those in the southern states is being discussed and supposedly implemented BUT nothing is in motion in Dallas County!

Please join me by writing to your State Representatives, Congressional officials, and the Postmaster General or anyone you know to expedite providing air conditioned trucks for ALL of our mail carriers especially those that service the State of Texas during these chronic heat conditions!
