There are good impromptu portraits everywhere. Walking down East 86th Street in NYC in the rain in the dark, saw these guys a few minutes apart, and just asked if I could take their picture. After I got home with these images, my only regret was not talking to them more. Just interesting. Strangers on the street.

While Abraham Lincoln’s cabinet has been referred to as a “team of rivals”, Donald Trump’s appears to be a clown car of incompetents.

Another typical day in paradise. Forced to move from the chair on right side of patio to chair on left to capture this image. Making photos is such hard work.

Self portrait ... by the light of the slightly hazy silvery moon... and no, this is not a composite of two photos, only a single exposure.

Sometimes changing backgrounds on a candid image just seems to make it a bit more interesting ... although watching a youth skateboarder making his first successful trick jump is pretty interesting in and of itself.

Given that many of my friends seem to think that a puzzle is more fun the a straightforward story, where is it that I was watching this 90 yard long fantasy video yesterday while lying on pillows on the floor? And I do advise all interested to go there and see it along with the rest of the massive art at the location.

Japan just sounded the death knell for digital camera sales... but is anyone listening? 07/26/2024

This is not "news" by any means. For most people their current cell phone takes better photos than the consumer digital photos of just a fews years ago ... and cost more. If someone is taking photos for social media and/or 4x6" prints, in most cases for the consumer the phones do a great job HOWEVER, they are digital cameras, just now Swiss army knives instead of single use items. For the professional market, this will probably have minimal impact. If AP has sent you out to capture cyclists at the coming Summer Olympics, a phone camera will be close to useless. You'll still want a pro-level digital camera where you can control shutter speed, aperture, and ISO along with great autofocus and subject tracking plus have little to no noise. And do this with a 10x to 20x magnification. So, no, no "death knell for digital camera sales," just an elimination of the low end cameras for those taking fun photos. (My 2-cents for today)

Japan just sounded the death knell for digital camera sales... but is anyone listening? As digital camera ownership in Japan drops below 50 per cent, we could see big manufacturers start to enter a doom spiral.
