As we observe Earth Day 2024 and the absurd abundance of creation, let us remember the ways our behavior turns abundance into scarcity. If everyone in the world consumed resources like residents of the US, we would need 5.1 planet earths (that's 4.1 more than we have, for those keeping score) to supply that demand.

God of creation, empower us to steward your creation so that your abundance is available for all people. Free us from our selfishness, apathy, and especially from the futility we feel when we contemplate our own smallness and the enormity of our challenges. Resurrect our hope that your new life in us will yield new life for others. Help us remember that your Kingdom is already coming and that your will is already being done on earth as it is in heaven. Help us to merge into the flow of your Spirit and add our voices to those of all creation to cry out for your redemption, repair, and wholeness.
