NVC has something to say about polarization. And it's not what most people expect.

Nonviolent Communication isn’t asking us to become neutral. It isn’t asking us to pretend every viewpoint is equally acceptable, or to give up our own convictions.

You can believe that someone’s choices are dangerous. You can oppose what they are doing. You can set firm boundaries and refuse to support them.

And still ask:
"What deeply human need might be driving this person toward a strategy I strongly reject?"

Seeing that need doesn’t mean endorsing the strategy.

It means refusing to reduce a human being to the part of them we’re fighting against.

That may be one of the hardest things NVC asks of us.

Understanding isn’t agreement. It’s how we stop dehumanizing.
(And from there, new possibilities can emerge.)
