last video for the demos

i’ll be unavailable for the next couple of days to finish encore and shoot additional material
hope y’all enjoyed the demos and thanks for making it this far in the story
this time around i wanted to showcase my music during the process of making it cuz i feel that the journey behind making each song is just as special as the final song itself
the journey of trial and error to find the sounds that best capture the purest of feelings and emotions
again and again and again
leveraging the wisdom built from practice and experience, from trying, to create something beautiful, with grace
that’s what this ep means to me
and so i say
encore.

red pill blue pill

matrix was made when my engineer and I downloaded a prettifun drum pack off reddit
the inspiration for this song was unfazed by prettifun, you can hear it in the drums especially
i’ve always been a fan of the energy these type of sounds bring and would love to make more music like this
out of all the demos released, this one’s probably the least finished, but it’s been the one i’ve personally listened to the most
i’d like to make a couple edits to the chorus and verse but i did wanna share the barebones before it’s completed next week cuz the process matters just as much as the final product

in the book, the fifth adult the prince meets is the lamplighter
the lamplighter extinguishes and relights his lamp over and over because his planet spins once per minute
although the prince admires the lamplighter’s devotion to his duty, the lamplighter represents “blind adherence to routine” and faithful ignorance
there’s nothing wrong in it, but where I am right now, i don’t want to live taking the blue pill and waking up when i’m 40
i refuse to engage in NPC behavior and living life, going through the motions
f**k the system, les pop the red pill and strive for something real

i’ll be releasing the final demo for encore tomorrow called “matrix” before heading to LA to finish the EP
thank yall so much for listening to my music, i hope to repay yall with better and better music

making overflow:
overflow pt. 1 started as a synth sample that my engineer and i found on splice
i remember hearing the synths singing parts of the chorus even before laying down the words
after finishing, i told my engineer that it didn’t feel like it was enough, it didn’t feel finished
so we went back in and started building a transition and pt. 2
the inspiration for the latter half of overflow was “swimming pools (drank)” by kendrick lamar
i wanted to capture a lot of the themes and sounds used in the timeless track
so for the transition we tried to create the feeling of being underwater, sinking to the depths beneath the waves
and for the outro, we tried to capture howling in the rain, using thunder and rain sounds
finally the ending, was a lo-fi piano sample from splice with the intent to release the tension
making this song has truly made me feel the most creatively free and alive, so far
so i wanna continue making music to chase that feeling for as long as i can

in the book, the third adult that the prince meets on his interstellar travels is the drunkard
the drunkard drinks to forget the shame of drinking
in this song, i wanted to capture how freeing it can feel to be too drunk to think and be aware and the rollercoaster that alcohol can often bring afterwards
making mistakes, coping with pain, and confronting shame are all part of being human, and that’s what i want to capture the most with my music
what it feels like to be human.

i slapped a black and white filter on and added some lyrics cuz ive been enjoying the b&w with arial look
