Credible Identifying Witness

When a signer has no valid ID

✔️ What is it?
A credible identifying witness is a person who:
- Personally knows the signer
- Can confirm their identity
- Appears in person
- Takes an oath before the Notary
- Swears the signer is who they claim to be

They act like a human ID when the signer has no acceptable identification.

📘 Texas Rules
Texas allows:

🔹 1 credible witness personally known to the Notary for acknowledgments
(Civil Practice & Remedies Code §121.005)

🔹 A credible witness personally known to the Notary or who presents valid ID for other notarial acts
(1 TAC 87.40(2))
