Georgia Association of Convenience Stores (GACS)

Convenience stores need to be aware of a new hurdle that is approaching tied to changes to the accounting lease standard ASC 842. It’s not uncommon for C-Stores, especially those that are vertically integrated, to have hundreds of leases – each with different terms and conditions.

In a recent article featured in the Winter 2021 issue of GACS Today, a publication of the Georgia Association of Convenience Stores (GACS), Todd McMullen, CPA, Partner, and Geoff Braun, CPA, Business Assurance Director, provide details on what C-Stores need to know about implementing and maintaining compliance with ASC 842.

Jim Tudor’s wife, Sandra, has asked for an urgent prayer request for Jim. This morning he tangled with a yellow jacket nest while burning some brush. He’s on the way to the ER now. Evidently he doesn’t respond well to stings. Please lift him up. I’ll post an update when I have one.

And GACS is proud to have you as a member!

We have the best members!

It’s the first Wednesday of the month meaning one cent from every gallon of gas sold today will be donated to our local schools! At Parker’s, it’s just another way to give back to this wonderful community we live in!

Due to widespread power outages, limited internet access (which is draining battery life), and road debris, the GACS office will be closed today, October 29, until power is restored and debris is removed.

Hope to be “Back on Track” no later than Friday, Oct 30!

Convenience stores are open around the clock to provide for their communities and work hard to keep their employees and guests safe. They deserve commonsense and bipartisan protections — not the threat of baseless lawsuits that would harm our recovery. #ProtectConvenience #RecoveryforUS

We must support essential businesses that are working overtime to support our communities during the pandemic. Convenience stores that play by the rules need commonsense protections from lawsuits. #ProtectConvenience #RecoveryforUS

Thank you for protecting Georgia's critical infrastructure including convenience stores!

‪This week our office and 21 other state attorneys general wrote a letter to Congress urging the adoption of the federal pandemic liability protections contained in the Safe to Work Act. ‬

‬This is our latest action to help mitigate the threat of frivolous COVID-related litigation for much-needed goods and services while still ensuring victims have legal options where appropriate. In the wake of this unprecedented crisis, the extension of appropriate civil liability protections is needed at both the state and federal levels for businesses, manufacturers of personal protective equipment, first responders, healthcare workers, healthcare facilities, members of law enforcement and other individuals and entities.

Protect Your Business from Frivolous Lawsuits

Convenience stores are open around the clock to provide essential goods and services to their communities. They should be able to continue their efforts without the fear of costly legal fees. Tell Congress you agree: #ProtectConvenience #RecoveryforUS We need your help stopping frivolous lawsuits related to COVID-19. To date, nearly 4,000 legal claims have been filed nationwide. Unfortunately, we know that number will only grow as some individuals look to take advantage of this... 07/26/2020

Prayers for our friends and fellow member Golden Pantry! So thankful no one was hurt in the fire!

Earlier today, there was a fire at our store in Bishop. Thankfully, no one was hurt. We are deeply grateful for the first responders who immediately worked to control the fire and protect the public.

We will rebuild and return to serving the Bishop community as soon as we possibly can. Thank you to our loyal customers for your support as we move forward in the days and weeks ahead.

Our team has stepped up and is working night and day to serve the community during this time of crisis. We're proud to be there for the healthcare workers, the first responders, and more.
