Happy Easter! What a wonderful Easter service conducted at The Sound! The First United Methodist Church Coppell pulled it off in grand fashion. This is the first time that my family has attended a live worship in over a year. What a great way to move back to normalcy!

The service was conducted outdoors, with social distancing clearly marked, and with masks required.

Congratulations to Pastor Tom Palmer, the staff, musicians, and all the church volunteers that made this happen.

The city’s annual budget process is beginning this week. It is going to be truly exciting to hear how Coppell has managed to survive the pandemic, the loss of sales tax revenue, and continues to provide a balanced budget that meets our citizen’s needs and expectations. This budget will be the result of conservative fiscal management and experienced leadership.

The Virtual Budget Town Hal meeting will be held on Tuesday, April 6, at 6:00 PM by Zoom. The city staff will review the budget process, financial documents, and various projects that are planned. Other items, for future consideration, may also be discussed.

Perhaps just as exciting, the City Council will conduct a workshop on our Five Year Document. This is our long range strategic plan that lays the groundwork for this and future budgets. The workshop will be held on Thursday, April 15, starting at 6:00 PM. This workshop and resulting document will provide direction for the city staff and City Council to follow over the coming months and years. This workshop is an example of what our experienced leadership brings to Coppell.

Both meetings are open to the public and may be viewed online or through Zoom.

It has been an honor to serve the citizens of Coppell over the last 9 years on the City Council. I believe that my experience and tenure prepares me to continue serving the citizens of Coppell as their Mayor. After thought, prayer, and much discussion, I have decided to seek that office.

We certainly have faced challenges in the past and I promise that will continue to find ways to ensure that Coppell remains a great place to live, work, and play. We are certainly going to have some issues over the next few years with changes in our ability to collect some of our existing revenues. I am very pleased with the stewardship that we have practiced and we must continue our diligence.

A huge "THANK YOU" to all our friends, supporters, and voters of Coppell that have given me another 3 years of service to the City of Coppell. I am humbled by the support and pledge to continue to make Coppell the best place to live!

I am open to chatting, talking, coffee, or virtual meets. My phone number is 214-724-9008 and best email is [email protected]

Thanks again! I look forward to working for each of you.

I’ve heard the city council get the blame for many things, but the most ridiculous is the accusation that we don’t listen to our citizens. One of the best examples is concerning the Bio Diversity Center.

During lengthy public discussion over the center, we heard from many speakers. Most of them were in favor of funding the center. I was opposed to funding it due to number of items; however, impassioned speeches by many of citizens and the backers of the center shed new light on the usage and the importance of the center.

Lou Duggan, Barb Schmidt and many others made it very clear to me that while none of us can predict the future, we can do something about the “here and now” with the intent of making the future better.

I changed my mind and voted “AYE” in favor. Who could have imagined that the center would now be having over 10,000 visitors per year? I wouldn’t have guessed that in my wildest dreams. Congratulations to the Friends of the Nature Park for having the vision!
