We are definitely not slowing down in May!
It was great to get back to the Allen Senior Recreation Center this week to see all of the remodeling changes. It looks great!
Tuesday we visited the Allen Public Library, it's been recently remodeled as well. We enjoyed checking all of the activities and facilities. Books are only 1 part of a library.! Check out all of the great events happening this month. After lunch at Allen Cafe we went to The Edge to check out the Butterfly Festival sponsored by the Allen Kiwanis Club, it will be available until May 10th so check it out.
We spent today getting ready for the Wine Walk this Saturday. It promises to be a fun one with the Allen Arts Festival going on as well.

This week has been a week of change. The Allen Senior Recreation Center is closed for some remodeling and cleaning, so we took the opportunity to work at some different Parks and Recreation Centers. Monday we spent the day at Terrell Recreation Center. We rolled towels, cleaned equipment, and attached labels to water bottles for a special event. We really liked getting to meet some new people and do different things. On Tuesday we were at Joe Farmer Recreation Center. We set up for some children's activities and cleaned some equipment. We set up for pickle ball and even got the chance to play a bit. We really liked our time at Joe Farmer too.
Community Day was spent at Stonebriar Mall where among other things, we did some Mother's Day shopping.

Yesterday and today we explored the Historic Downtown McKinney area. (2 different groups) We focused on safety and awareness as we searched for the painted birds at area businesses (exterior walls). *We even met the artist today!
Everyone used the website link on the self guided tour link. The group

Tonight we were recognized at a reception for our work with Keep Allen Beautiful and the City of Allen. We are honored to be included with some truly amazing groups and individuals that help keep Allen a great place to live, work, and play.
Thank you to Community Waste Disposal (CWD) for being our partner.

Today some of our Explorers went to Stephen G Terrell Recreation Center. MP said we did workout. I did arms today, walked, and bike. SA said I did the rowing machine, cycling, and walked a mile. PA said I walked the treadmill, walked and ran on the track. SS said I walked the track first, then the elliptical and rode the bicycle. AJ said I walked and road the bicycle and the elliptical.
All of us are required to walk a mile at the minimum. One over achiever ran 2 miles and walked about 3 more. He loves the track.

It was a great day to give back! Check out the stats of what we helped accomplish! We packaged a LOT of potatoes. As someone in our group said, "it's a good thing we've practiced the assembly line a lot". That is correct! We are very well trained for this job!
