After my divorce, I carried a backpack of guilt that weighed me down every single day.

I’d wake up asking, “What if I’d been more patient? What if I’d seen the signs?”

The ‘if onlys’ were relentless—If only I’d fought harder, maybe I wouldn’t be here.

For months, I let that guilt define me, like it was proof I’d failed at life.

Then one day, I hit a breaking point—I was tired of punishing myself for something I couldn’t rewrite.

I grabbed a notebook, a pen, and started writing a letter to my past self.

Every regret, every ounce of blame, every tear-stained “why”—it all went onto that page.

I didn’t hold back—I told myself how angry I was, how lost I felt, how I’d tried my best.

When I finished, I didn’t send it or show it to anyone—I just sat with it.

That was the day I stopped blaming myself and realized guilt wasn’t my sentence—it was my choice.

Here’s the truth I wish I’d known sooner: Divorce isn’t a report card on your worth.

It’s not a scoreboard where you tally up who’s at fault—it’s a chapter, not your whole book.
