Dogs Matter
Temporary dog foster care & supportive services for addicts and alcoholics seeking treatment. Dogs Matter offers a different choice.
Alcoholics and addicts seeking in-patient treatment facilities have had limited options regarding the care of their pets. In many cases either they place them in an unhealthy environment or surrender them to a shelter. We are the only nonprofit agency to provide temporary foster care placement and supportive services specifically for dogs of addicts and alcoholics in recovery. We take care of your best friend while you take care of yourself.

💙 AURORA’S JOURNEY HOME 🐾
Sometimes, a foster story is about so much more than a dog needing a temporary place to stay.
For lee, it started with one photo of Aurora. One look at her eyes, and her heart was stolen.
As a first-time foster, Seongyeon quickly learned that fostering comes with its share of chaos. Aurora locked her out of the house, serenaded the neighborhood with her 8-to-5 howling, and even became seriously ill after a difficult daycare stay.
There were late nights, ER visits, worry, and plenty of learning along the way.
But through it all, Aurora became family.
For Aurora’s dad, having her safely cared for meant he could focus on the most important thing: his recovery.
When Aurora’s dad found a treatment center in Colorado that would allow Aurora to stay with him, everything fell into place. ❤️
Seongyeon then made the incredible journey from Dallas to Colorado to reunite Aurora with her dad personally. 🥹🐾
The reunion came with a bittersweet goodbye.
Seongyeon shared: “Fostering broke my heart open in the best way possible, and Aurora’s memory crumbs will stay with me forever.”
We are incredibly grateful to Seongyeon for opening her home and her heart, and ultimately for making the journey to Colorado so Aurora could be reunited with the person she loves most.
And we’re grateful to everyone who helped make this journey possible, from the Dallas Pets Alive team and medical teams to this incredible community.
This is what Dogs Matter is all about: giving people the opportunity to focus on recovery without having to give up the pets they love and creating a safe bridge between treatment and the day they can come home together. 💙
Aurora got her happy ending. Her dad got to focus on his recovery. And one incredible foster helped make their reunion possible.
That’s the power of a foster. 🐾

UPDATE: FOSTERS SECURED FOR CALI GIRL AND FLORENCE 💕
Southern California, we need your help. Dogs Matter and Project Street Vet have joined forces to support people and their pets during difficult times in SoCal, and we urgently need two local foster homes.
Meet Florence: an older, house-trained girl who is wonderful on leash and gets along beautifully with her resident dog. Her owner recently passed away, and Florence needs either a foster-to-adopt home or a short-term triage foster while we help secure her next safe landing.
We also need a temporary foster for Cali Girl, a sweet 9-month-old pup whose owner is currently in post-op care. He is up to date on all medical care and needs a safe, stable place to stay while his owner recovers.
📍Fosters must be located in Southern California. A safe, loving home for 90 days could make a lifelong difference. To foster or learn more, email: [email protected].
Can’t foster? Please share. These dogs need their community, and the right person may be just one share away. 🐾❤️

🐾 WEEKLY WINS 🐾
This week was full of the moments that make our mission so special.
💙 Foster Ash enjoyed a pup cup and reminded us that even the smallest moments can bring so much joy.
💙 Recovery Coach Shawna partnered with Project Street Vet for outreach in Lancaster, connecting with pet owners and sharing resources.
💙 Jenn shared her story about participating in our Companion Recovery Program and being reunited with her pets. Conversations like these empower others, reduce stigma, and provide hope to those who may be struggling.
💙 And finally, Zuko is looking for a foster home. Could you be the one to help?
Every foster, every conversation, every act of kindness helps keep pets and their people together through recovery.

Look at these two. ❤️
Ressee and Kellee are six-year-old sibling pups who have spent every one of those years learning how to take care of each other.
They keep each other entertained and calm. Spend just a little time with them, and you’ll see it immediately; whatever soulmates are supposed to look like between two dogs, this is it.
We’re looking for one foster home for both of them, together. Not two separate placements. One home in Houston for two dogs who already know how to love each other so well. We’re grateful to be partnering with Caro’s Canines Safe Haven Program on this search and excited about the good things ahead. 🐾
The ask is 60 days. Just 60 days to give Ressee and Kellee a soft, safe place to land together, while we work toward finding their forever home.
If you can open your home, email [email protected]. Can’t foster? Please share this post.
Ressee and Kellee are ready and waiting in Houston. ❤️
