March 13, 1933 — Born on this day, legendary songwriter and producer Mike Stoller came into the world, destined to help shape the very foundation of rock and roll.
Best known as one half of the iconic songwriting team Leiber & Stoller, alongside lyricist Jerry Leiber, Mike Stoller helped craft some of the most influential rhythm & blues and early rock classics ever recorded. Their groundbreaking sound blended blues, pop, humor, and storytelling in a way that changed popular music forever.
Among their timeless creations were unforgettable hits like “Hound Dog,” “Jailhouse Rock,” “Love Potion No. 9,” “Yakety Yak,” and “Stand By Me.” Their close association with Elvis Presley produced some of the King’s most exciting and enduring recordings, helping define the explosive energy of 1950s rock and roll.
