We are a group of Christian therapists passionate about supporting the mental health needs of the local church.

One of our core values at Watershed Initiative is helping to increase access to mental health resources. Texas has one of the highest percentages of uninsured and worker shortages. That's one reason we host a podcast and offer discounted rates through our church partnership program.

We also partner with a nonprofit called Sweet Deeds Foundation which seeks to offer free and low-cost options for quality mental health to those who lack access.

This fall, their campaign, "Wellbeing for All," is raising funds for their Therapy Assistance Fund.

100% of proceeds go directly to subsidizing the cost of therapy.

If your life has been positively transformed by therapy and you'd like to help "pay it forward" to someone in need, this is a great way to do that.

Any gift amount helps make a difference.

Why can’t AI replace a human therapist?

Because wounds happen in the context of human relationships.
Healing happens in the context of human relationships.

That thought from Ly Tran, LPC-S, is inspired by this quote by Dr. Harville Hendrix:
“We are born in relationship, we are wounded in relationship, and we can be healed in relationship.”

We’re talking about how AI is shaping mental health.

Your body and facial expressions are saying as much, if not more, than your actual words.

More and more people are turning to their chatbot for relational and personal advice. Have you?

The stats back this up.

This month we're tackling the subject of mental health and AI. Can AI be your therapist?

In this conversation, Laura Harrison and Ly Tran, licensed professional counselors who are self-labeled "early adopters" talk honestly about the benefits - and limits - of AI.

We tackle how AI is impacting mental health care specifically and how it's impacting mental health anxieties at a society level.

Is AI changing how we care for our mental and emotional health?

On the latest episode of The Work Within, we're digging into two questions:
→ How is AI changing the way people access mental health care?
→ How is AI affecting our mental and emotional well-being?

Know this: we don't think it's all bad or scary. AI has really promising applications in the field of mental health, but there are also major concerns.

So let’s wrestle, engage, and approach this new frontier with wisdom, faith, and humility.

Anxiety can turn people into control freaks (over-function) or cause them to check out (under-function).

Does this describe you?

If you've ever tried to force yourself to sit still and have a "quiet time" because you thought that was the Christian thing to do, we get it.

That may work for some people. But you may need to get more active before you can get more still.

Learning to manage anxiety is about building your a toolkit that works for you.

That toolkit will likely include a mix of spiritual practices (like prayer and Bible reading), body movement (working out, walks, playing pickleball), and relational connectors (joining a small group, talking with a friend).

The challenge for most people is experimenting long enough to find something that fits. And even more challenging is the fact that this may shift depending on the demands or season of your life.

But this is part of the fun of journeying with God and others.
